Reichard = money
Isn't it a different feeling with Reichard kicking?
Instead of going into a FG attempt (regardless of the distance) thinking "hey, maybe he'll make it, we have about a 4 in 5 chance on some days", it's a different feeling of confidence.
I'm out of market and can't watch todays game against the Eagles live, but following it on ESPN Gamecast.
I'm optimistic for BFlo's defense and I don't have enough time in the saddle watching Darnold to have confidence in him...that will come in time.
But with Reichard's foot, I think that's probably good enough for an additional 3 wins this season.
Between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, these are the top scorers in the NFL. Not one of them scored a touchdown by rushing, return, receiving or otherwise.
They are all kickers. And yes, that is Greg Joseph down there at #16.
Christian McCaffrey came in at #23, the first non-kicker over those two seasons to crack the top 25.

In fairness those 4 kickers all had 23 years plus in the league so more time to accrue those points so not an apples to apples comparison
You are still talking about roughly 100 points per season on average, imo thats worth a late draft pick if you think you can identify a good one. Maybe picking a good one is a crap shoot, but i would still prefer to make my decision with the cupboard full vs letting fate take it course as some in the league seem to do.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

A deeper analysis on why drafting kickers doesn't make sense.

The only real important question for me is will Reichard be worth a 6th rd draft choice?
If his kicking acumen from college follows him to the pro's? The answer will be an easy and unequivocal yes.
I suspect the Vikings felt the same way, maybe had some intel K's were about to go off of the board?

I love it...
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Maybe Zim can call Reichard and give him a motivational speech....lol. That sure helped Daniel Carlson. I think Reichard is a machine in his own right but is also very lucky to have KO and his upbeat supportive style. Even great kickers get in their own way mentally from time to time.

Agreed...And I would wager some serious coin JJM feels the same way about KOC

This franchise has been snakebit by kickers since early 99. If they thought they could end that slide with a sixth round, it would had been disappointing if they didn't give it a go. The past few years of leaving the room when kicking an extra point has grown old.

if there are 8 sandwiches on a table, one is PB&J the other 7 are dog shit, do you want first pick or you going to let a few others grab their sandwiches first then hope you get the good one? I am simply saying that at a position of need its not a waste of a pick if you genuinely feel that one is better than the others, maybe the league just needs to find a better metric for picking a quality kicker?

I feel like what this "Don't waste a draft pick on a kicker" thought process is missing is an analysis on what else you could do with the pick. No one is spending a 6th round pick on a guy that they think is going to legit make a difference. I just struggle with the idea that I'd rather have the 14th best CB and a UDFA kicker in the draft than getting to pick the best kicker in the draft and getting the 16th best CB as a UDFA.
