I don't doubt this, Doogie is dialed in:

But KOC is downplaying, yet also saying telling things. He's seeing JJM's potential and he needs more to confirm. More to believe. But this is how McCarthy has always done it, just let the skills speak: Whatever the level is, he'll get there. He's full of aptitude, coupled with top level athleticism. I do think this kid is going to change narratives. He's different. He's going to be the guy that just wins games in crunch time. Its going to be a big adjustment for us long-timers, lol.

I'm breathing fine. Not saying he should start soon, its not what's best for him. But I am getting excited about his potential. Certainly a long way to go as most have mentioned. He's improving and if he can continue to work under the conditions of not needing to start, he'll continue to improve. His early accuracy has almost shocked me.

I might be optimistic, but don't get me wrong: I'm not calling for him to start anytime soon. Keep making mistakes and keep getting better. I think JJM being 'better' right now won't change anything, he's planted firmly at #3 on the depth chart and I think KOC will keep him there regardless.

All of this is fantastic news**, and if we really hit on JJ, I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that he's been the better of the two QBs, but I'd be super careful here. We can't fuck this up. All of those QBs who started right away and failed looked better than their competition in training camp too. Mac Jones, Bryce Young, Sam Darnold. Not all of them were failures, but enough to be concerned about.

**No doubt JJ has been better and this is great news, but keep in mind that Purple Persuasion in particular has a very obvious anti-Darnold, pro-JJ agenda in all of his camp reports, and I've seen some legit news sources like SI quote him, which is a little nuts.

All good advice here for fans, me included. Just a caveat: I've been qualifying my hype for JJM always, being sure to mention this is very early and the hype machine on Twitter is there and real both positive and negative. And I don't want him to start early.

I don't care if he is better than Darnold right now. I sit him. Maybe not the whole year but for a good part of it. I just think the QB we get in '25 will be a better QB if we do that. I mean he could be really special if we do this right.

I think KOC has zero plans to start McCarthy before he thinks he's ready according to The Plan....and he won't be pressured into doing so. Mop up games toward the end of the year if Minnesota is way out of it I'd expect. I think it would be ideal for him to feel 2-3 games as a starter toward the end, would be a springboard and official notice he's the guy in 2025.

KOC has his lump of clay, he's seeing it with his own eyes. McCarthy works hard, he's got the physical gifts, he's mobile, and he's a leader. Probably an A+ culture fit in Minnesota. As an impressive a 21 year old as you'll ever meet live. But go look at some of his throws from yesterday and the day before: crazy good. He can change the angle of his throwing motion to complete plays like Patrick Mahomes does (I'm not saying he's Patrick Mahomes). I'm still surprised how accurate he's been early. He's a competitor.

What this early strong showing by JJM is doing more than anything is solidifying their plan even deeper into not fucking it up and play him early. Keep him on this trajectory, keep pressuring him, keep having him learn from mistakes in comfort. The aptitude to be The One is there and obvious. He won't be 'sitting just to sit'. The plan is to get him to an optimum level.
