Earlier this month, Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson tragically died in a car accident. According to Maryland State Police, Jackson was one of three people killed in the crash, which took place in Maryland's Prince George's County. The preliminary investigation indicated that another vehicle hit the car Jackson was in, which traveled off the right side of the road and struck multiple tree stumps.

Jackson had been selected by Minnesota in the fourth round of this year's draft, and ahead of what would have been his first training camp, one of his draft-class-mates is honoring him in his own way. First-round pick Dallas Turner took the nameplate from Jackson's locker and placed it above his own, according to this snapshot from ESPN.

Turner never got to play on the same team with Jackson in the pros, but they were actually teammates for two seasons at Alabama before Jackson transferred to Oregon prior to the 2023 campaign. Jackson played only sparingly for the Crimson Tide, but he was named first-team All-Pac 12 in 2023 after recording 34 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, seven passes defensed and three interceptions in his lone season for the Ducks.

5 things to know about Dallas Turner  from Vikings.com

Short and worthwhile read.

#4 Has a Business Side
"According to The Athletic, Turner wanted a new gaming monitor and was given a $20 "loan" from his mom to purchase baking supplies. He soon was running a bake sale at the school that brought in $800. "

The only gesture I'm interested in is his signing a contract.

I suspect its offset language holding anything up...

His contract is pretty set by the CBA:

Per Spotrac, Turner is expected to earn a four-year, fully-guaranteed $15.7 millioncontract with the Vikings, including an $8.2 million signing bonus and a fifth-year option in 2028.

I know the contracts are slotted, which makes Turner holding out even less excusable.

Edge rusher and Minnesota Vikings first-round draft pick Dallas Turner signed his rookie contract, the team announced on Sunday.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the contract as a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $15.76 million, including a $8.28 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option.

He and fellow first-rounder quarterback J.J. McCarthy signed their deals officially on Sunday, coinciding with the start of rookies reporting for Training Camp.

The Vikings had two first-round picks when the 2024 NFL Draft started, selections 11 and 23 overall. General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah traded up from 23 to 17 overall to select Dallas Turner after he was expected to go in the top ten but fell in the draft, as did all defensive players.
Turner played three years at Alabama and accumulated 22.5 sacks and 33.5 tackles for loss. He is expected to make an immediate impact as a starter on the edge, opposite Jonathan Greenard, who joined the team during the offseason.

Turner and McCarthy were two of the last three first-round draft picks to sign with their team. Amarius Mims of the Cincinnati Bengals joined them with that distinction, but no more.

Rookies reported to training camp on Sunday, and veterans report on July 23.
