Loves the Vikings, loves KOC, would love to stay in the Midwest, loves the weapons on offense. 'I'd run through a brick wall for Coach O'Connell'. - JJM
He's from LaGrange, IL so he grew up a Bear's fan, but that won't be happening. This kid would be a fan favorite in Minnesota in 5 minutes. Extremely polite and a hard worker, but he's got some dawg in him. Very important: Bright lights don't bug him. Fifth ranked HS QB coming out, uber talented. Exceptional hockey player. Went to the IMG Academy, played with/against exceptional athletes. With all the meandering I've done the last month, this is still my guy.

My guy!! Love it. He's going to be a thing with fans. Big, big ceiling on this kid. KOC will take it slow, but he's got his piece of clay. Minnesota was his #1 choice (and apparently many other QBs as well). He's going to develop big time with the Vikings. He's going to make big time plays in big time situations.

Teams generally know what other teams are going to do or who they want. We forget that as fans:

Harbaugh: 'That's where he wanted to go (Minnesota)....that's where his heart was set'.

He weighed in at 219 lbs at the Combine, knows he needed 10 lbs of muscle and got it. He'll fill out because he's lean but doesn't necessarily have a lean frame. Strong kid.

(Sorry, I've coached OL/DL my whole life)

I think the Penix pick spooked the Vikings to move up to 10, but I've heard some say the Vikings were mad because they wanted Penix. I don't believe that at all. I think they would've taken Penix at 11 only if McCarthy were already off the board.
I like Penix, but a lefty diminishes the value of Darrisaw and changes all the route trees...not to mention his age and injury history. No way they take him over JJ.
Agreed. I think they viewed Penix as an option ONLY if JJM was gone or unreachable.

That was some of his positive traits albeit a small sample size. I hate when they compare prospects to actual NFL players as they are never the same but the name Alex Smith kept coming up and that would be the most Viking like Qb as they seem to love the game managers.Hope it works out as we have spent our draft capital for 25 (except a first) and that there is actually someone worth signing in free agency (younger, upside guys etc.)
Yeah, I hate the comparisons as well. The media loves their buckets to put players in.
Just like any QB, who knows for sure how JJM will turn out. But he did operate in a pro style offense, worked under center and called plays in the huddle. That's a step up from 70% of the QBs in college football. He's played in the biggest games a player can play in....and won. He doesn't squint when the bright lights are on. And he's a very good athlete. Good starting points at least.

Sticky, I think you and I were the first ones pining for JJ earlier this season. Glad we got him.
It doesn't mean everything, but the fact that he clicked with O'Connell and was asked leading up to the draft where he really wanted to be and he said MN... and then we get him... I think we're going to have an extremely motivated young man that will give his all to be this franchise's long-term QB.
Agreed, Wet. The kid is going to be popular on this team, especially once he becomes The Man. His top notch play action is going to open up some room for Jefferson and Addison. He's where he wants to be and its going to show. Its going to be fun.

Not sure about this, but its an opinion:
