After last year's offensive debacle, Iowa Hawkeyes' OC (and coach Kirk's son) Brian had his contract adjusted... he took a pay cut while all the other assistants got a raise. To get his pay raised to its previous level, the Hawkeyes have to
1. win 7+ games
2. average 25+ ppg.

It's not totally clear if Brian is automatically canned if the offense misses those marks but the fans are acting like he will be... so cue the comedy of Hawkeye fans wanting to team to win but score under 25 points so they can dump the coach's son.

So far so ... good? the first 2 weeks, with Iowa scoring 24 vs. Utah State and 20 vs Iowa St in a pair of wins. Iowa 2-0 and Brian 6 points off pace.

Then came today vs Western Michigan.  Iowa a 28 point favorite with a 42.5 over/under.  Sure enough, after the 1st Q, Iowa was... trailing 7-0.  Oops.  Then the Hawkeyes finally woke up. 34-10, under 4 minutes left, ball in WMU territory, just try to run it out, right?  Wrong.  20 yard pass inside the 10 gives them 1st and goal.  !st and goal run. Incomplete pass on 2nd down. Pass to 2-yard line on 3rd down.  So on 4th and goal from the 2 with under a minute left up 24 points just kneel on it? Wrong again. 2 yard TD run, 41-10.

The funny part was that while Iowa's backup QB was throwing passes up 24 in the final minutes, they weren't doing any other "hurry-up" type offense things. No time outs, nor was there any no-huddle.  Is there such a thing as running up the score in slow motion?
