  1. Stick with Kyler. Very unpopular opinion among the irascible masses, but I really do believe this direction results in the best January QB.

  2. Trade for Daniel Jones. He’s familiar with the offensive concepts. He’s much more the KOC type than Murray is. And I think Indy might just be willing to deal him before that ship disappears under the water completely. 2 years, $88M

  3. Trade for Justin Herbert. He’s the most talented QB we’re talking about here. Horrible season, but I don’t think you can gauge his talent level based on what he’s doing this year. Dude makes a quarter billion dollars tho. How we manage that, I have no idea.

  4. Trade for Kirk Cousins. I don’t think he’s the QB we remember from 3 seasons ago. But the fact that he might know the offense better than anyone on this list makes him an intriguing candidate. 1-year, $20M

  5. Promote Wentz. No doubt he’ll make our offense look competent immediately. Just don’t think he’s someone you want at the helm in January. I could be wrong about that. Nick Freaking Foles won a Super Bowl. It’s been said a hundred times, but it’s still true: “All we need is average QB play.”

  6. Trade for Mac Jones. I don’t think this does much for us right away. Maybe? But it might give us our QB for 2027.  It’s also hard to see the 49ers trading their backup in what looks like a playoff year for them.

Option 1

Add some rollouts, sprint outs, RPOs, designed runs, and a moving pocket. Just getting more snaps in the shotgun is a half-measure.

I PROMISE it will work 😆

I also like option 6 for next year in FA but not via trade.

The New York Giants shipped a fifth-round pick to Minnesota for J.J. McCarthy earlier this season. Ahead of Sunday’s NFC East matchup, Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said he's impressed that Big Blue acquired the QB for so little.

“The quarterback has come in, in a short period of time and really done a nice job. For them to get him for a [fifth]-round pick is a steal,” Fangio said Tuesday at the end of a long-winded breakdown of the Giants' offseason changes.

McCarthy has played just six quarters for the Giants, but was very impressive in the Week 7 overtime victory over the Houston Texans, generating 252 yards on 20-of-28 passing. McCarthy looked much more confident and accurate than at any time in Minnesota.

The question for the NFC East-leading Giants is whether the QB's play in New York is replicable or whether it’s simply a small sample and he’ll revert to the same inconsistent passer we saw in Minnesota.

Much of how McCarthy plays will come down to the staff around him. The coaching crew put the QB in position to make a lot of plays through his first six quarters. That must continue.

Fangio, who worked under Giants coach John Harbaugh for two seasons in Baltimore, respects the job the offense in New York has done this season to turn things around.

"They've got a really good offense," Fangio said. "They've got skill at the receiving position. They did a nice job raiding the Ravens, not only for John, but for [tight end Isaiah] Likely and [fullback Patrick] Ricard. They've got a lot of the Ravens-type offense that they had when [Giants senior offensive assistant] Greg [Roman] was there, and they've intermixed Kansas City-type passing in there with [offensive coordinator] Matt [Nagy].

"They've got it going right now. They've got good wideouts, good tight ends, two good backs.”

Fangio’s Eagles defense has struggled this season, ranking 27th in yards allowed and 21st in points given up. The pass rush has been sorely lacking, ranking 23rd in QB pressures and 29th in sacks. If they don’t disrupt McCarthy on Sunday, the young Giants quarterback could have another big day.

Yeah, I don't see any QB trade happening. Deadline time for a team perceived as desperate? Those guys would only be available if we bent over hard. I see all kinds of downside in that.

I've said it many ways in recent weeks and months- Kevin made this mess, and I don't see the franchise just wrecking itself to bail him out. At least I pray I'm right about that but the Wilfs have hit us with many a dumb move before so you never know.

If he doesn't want to adapt the offense to Kyler's strengths, then his choices are keep doing what doesn't work because he's stubborn AF and burn the season down, or put leadfoot Wentz in. Carson can run the vertical offense, albeit while turning it over 2-4 times a game which is gonna cost wins.

It won't be pretty and it likely won't win the title but it will keep Kevin employed so he can fuck around and find out with whoever his next QB is for 2027.

OTOH if the organization is serious, Nolan will have a Come to Jesus meeting with KOC and put a stop to the stupidity. He'll start utilizing Kyler the right way, stop killing his confidence and get him back on track. No crippling the future with bad trades or betting on Carson. Fingers crossed.🙏

MAYBE Option 6 if they felt K1 is just not going to work here and the entire season is at risk.

Otherwise, I think they roll with the QB room they got.

I agree with @JIT, I'd rather (under protest) sign a non-elite starter in 27 as a FA and not have to spend draft/player capital.

For the record? This is all beyond infuriating to me.

Seriously how did the Vikings get here? We all admonish other posters ME INCLUDED and say "yeah YOU know MORE than the professionals" and "we don't know what the whole story is" all the time. Since the end of the 2024 season this has been complete roster/franchise management malpractice. The way the roster has been managed makes the Hershel Walker trade look halfway competent.

There’s not going to be a great option, every option is going to have potential downsides. We’re just trying choose the best option from what’s available to us and hope it works out.

But the more that this plays out, the more it would still be nice to have JJM in the building. By the end of this process, I imagine KOC is going to have to change how he does offense into a way that JJM would have been workable. Obviously, we don’t really know what happened that burned that bridge here in Minnesota, but I hope it was a JJM problem and not a KOC problem.

I think bringing Cousins in is the clear best option, if it’s available to us, both for this year and 2027. He knows the offense for the most part. He’s not breaking the bank at this point. He’s productive.

Second best option is sticking with Kyler Murray for a while. He’s underperforming his baseline. I think he’ll still improve over time and will likely exceed Wentz. I know it’s painful to watch, but I think they’ll continue to get better over time. I’m not sure what the ceiling is, but for the love of God, get him out of the pocket intentionally.

I don’t really think bringing in an outside QB with limited understanding of the offense is a viable option for a SB run this year. I’m skeptical that Daniel Jones really had enough time to understand our offense. Herbert, I think is an option for long term, but I think he has the same risk of failure that JJM and Kyler experience and costs a ton. I think he’d continue to fail in 2026.

Last ditch effort would be to bring Mullens in, which I think you could do after the trade deadline. It’s YOLO, but we might be in YOLO territory and just hoping that we can stack some wins.

Hell I think I’d give a 1 for cousins . I’m sick of this 9 man high school offense but I do think koc is the biggest problem.

no on D Jones. Absolutely no. High price tag and has struggled mightily on 2 teams now.

Doubtful on Herbert. Too costly in pics and salary

Cousins? I am afraid you are right. But decent QB play would probably be good enough.

Mac Jones? Pipe dream IMO.

So, Wentz or Murray? I think the "hamstring" gives KOC a chance to look at the offense with Wentz. He came off the bench and then played in the rain in Chicago. I have no inclination he is going to light it up. But if he can drive the ball down the field just a bit, it might be enough.

Option 7

Build Time Machine. Offer Darnold a similar contract that Baker Mayfield first signed in TB (3yr $105 +) and roll the dice.

The question I have is this: If McCarthy was shipped out because KOC didn't want the QB competition carrying into the season, allowing Kyler to operate without looking over his shoulder, how does bringing in another QB make that situation any better?

If the thinking was that they needed to eliminate the possibility of fans calling for McCarthy every time Kyler struggled, then that's a pretty troubling way to manage the QB position. You can't preach competition and accountability while seemingly removing the competition to protect the incumbent.

And if Kyler continues to struggle, what exactly is the plan? Keep bringing in veteran QBs, or eventually acknowledge that maybe the original decision was wrong?

I'd really like to hear from some of the insiders at this point. They've been awfully quiet about what's actually happening behind the scenes with this QB situation. Seems like there are a few questions that deserve some answers.

I see no solutions on the horizon—just more quarterback quagmire for the foreseeable future.

This is the number one reason why I'd be happy if they traded for Herbert. Not because I think he'd win a Super Bowl or start a dynasty or anything like that, but because at least we'd have a guy locked in for a few years to rally around. But it's the Vikings and maybe not smart anyways to trade for him so that won't happen.

Option 5

Wentz startz this week against BUF. It has to happen. Let's see what that looks like and go from there.

Best option to quickly jumpstart the offense - Trade for Kirk.

No on Daniel Jones.

Herbert is very unlikely to be traded in season, and even if he did how long would it take him to learn our offense? The Chargers may be interested in dealing him in the offseason, but they also may pull the plug on McDaniel first.

If there is no help coming, at some point very soon you have to give Wince a chance.
