Yeah, it was a bad miss. Can't sugarcoat it any other way. Hopefully the more comfort in the O, the more his vision opens up. But I will say if the game is stacking completions, you're going to miss stuff like this from time to time. You probably can go through any QBs postgame video and see some misses.

For sure, but remember that Murray is a veteran and doesn't need the game to slow down and require "vision" improvement. That was a simple read with a corner/fade route that the high safety is already cheating to the post. I would expect rookies and/or young QBs to miss this, but not guys who have been in the league as long as Murray. I would have been pissed if I was Jennings on this play too. The pocket was clean and Murray had plenty of time to see this develop.

But you're right, there are plenty of plays in games where QBs miss open receivers and it's as simple as that. I'm just calling it what it is, because he shouldn't be still "getting a pass for getting comfortable in the offense", if someone who never played in the NFL before doesn't even get that pass.

You're paying WAY too much attention to this.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jennings was sold on coming to the Vikings based on the output that got last year's WR3, Jalen Nailor, signed to a $35M deal. And Jennings will have a far better QB than Nailor did. Being told that, then not getting any attention even after WR2 goes down, had to be frustrating. But that's football.
I'm convinced that if he were just patient, things would loosen up for him. But he blew it. Vikings haven't had that kind of sideline shit in years. Can't see him continuing on this team.

I agree with most of this, but I haven't seen the actual footage of him yelling at KO and the altercation. Does someone have a video of the issues? The only video I'm seeing is Jennings slamming his hand on the ground in frustration.

Without seeing the video, this may be a bit of an overreaction, as if it's simply that he's not getting the ball, that will be squashed quickly and should not be considered a malcontent, IMO. He's the #2 WR as you mentioned and he's not even getting action. Now, we can dive into why and it mainly being mostly on him, and if so, then he and KO will have to clean that up together.

Interesting. I thought we were supposed to dissect every aspect of a QB until we’re blue in the face, even to how ridiculously big Kyler's helmet is (that must way so much)? Funny how the scrutiny suddenly becomes “paying WAY too much attention” when it’s "your guy" making the mistake.

I’ve been pretty consistent in my thoughts on Kyler. I have concerns about his decision-making and some of the throws he makes, and I’m not going to ignore those things just because he’s wearing a Vikings uniform. That doesn’t mean I’m rooting against him. Quite the opposite actually, as I hope he leads us to a Super Bowl. He had an easy TD and missed it and as a result, it was the last straw apparently for Jennings, which I don't blame him, because if that was Jefferson or Addison running that route, he's throwing the ball. Maybe it's a frustration with Jennings and Kyler...

If we’re going to break down every little thing about other QBs, Kyler shouldn’t be exempt from the same scrutiny. Being a fan doesn’t mean checking your objectivity at the door.

Most receivers, like Jefferson for instance, have a bit more of a professional reaction to not having the ball thrown to them when they are open.

I understand the frustration but feel there is a more constructive way to deal with it.

I really think Oliver going down hurt Jennings. KOC is using him more as a blocker somewhat making him an afterthought as a receiver. But yeah, Murray totally missed on the one y'all are talking about.

Stop the video at the decision point. At the moment Murray plants his back leg, both receivers have about 5 yards on their defenders. He could've gone either way. He chose to go right instead of left. The right ball required some heat, and still the defender closed the gap. The left ball required some air so the defender likely would've closed the gap there too. If you think I have trouble criticizing Murray, you must've been asleep the first three and a half weeks. But I have zero problems with this one. I also think Jennings is being a little bitch about it.

I don't disagree with you on Jennings' attitude and needs to get that in check, but I don't know that he will be removed from the team as a result. I think this is something he, Kyler, and KO can work out together.

He chose right where all of the defenders were and decided not to throw a deep fade into the corner of the endzone where no defenders were. It's a bad miss, but every QB has them. He had plenty of time and didn't even need to wait any longer to throw to Jennings, even if he wanted to.

If a team comes knocking, I don't know why the Vikes wouldn't trade him away. He's not getting the ball, is disgruntled, and frankly hasn't shown enough in the summer or on the field to be worth the effort it'd take to un-gruntle him.

It could be a nice opportunity to continue to stock the 2027 war chest for Mr. Teasely...

I think ungruntled would be synonymous with disgruntled. So the question is...would it be worth it to gruntle him. At this point, I don't think he can be gruntled. 😎

Bad miss or not, Kyler played the best game since becoming a Viking. I was very happy to see it. I am not mad on the misses, couple were bad. He is keeping the mistakes to a minimum. The Saints game looked good. We will be tough to beat if he keeps making steps forward.

I would do that for sure. I am just not sure Jennings is a fit here.

I think someone mentioned this b4 (might have been MB) but it bears repeating.

I dont think this is all on Jennings...Hell, I'm not convinced KOC/Phillips are playing to his strengths and how he typically contributed in SF:

San Francisco 49ers (The Ultimate "Big Slot"): In Kyle Shanahan's offense, Jennings made his name as a premier slot option (often functioning like a hybrid Y/slot receiver due to his elite blocking size and physical frame). He spent the majority of his snaps lined up inside, clearing out space over the middle of the field and converting heavy physical blocks in the run game.

Minnesota Vikings (Pushed to the Perimeter/X-Factor): In Kevin O'Connell's offense, Jennings was signed to provide perimeter depth. Because Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison command a heavy share of slot reps and dynamic Z alignments, Jennings has been pushed outside. He has primarily filled the physical X receiver archetype on the boundary to handle wide blocking and clear-out routes, especially during weeks where Addison has been sidelined with an injury.

This shift to a boundary X role—where he runs more perimeter routes further away from the quarterback's primary progression—is a major reason his target volume has completely cratered to just 5 targets in 4 games this season. [pff]

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
