Sigh...
Brian Flores makes his NFL head coaching case
Good enough that he’s forcing the very league he is suing for discrimination into giving him a second shot at being a head coach. Sooner than later.
Don’t think it will happen as early as 2027? Don’t think an NFL team would want the distractions that would come with hiring the former Dolphins head coach?
Think again. Think about how badly teams want to win. Think about how crucial third downs are. And then study the Vikings’ success on that meaty down this season.
The Saints became the fifth team to not have a clue against Flores’ blitz-crazed third-down defense in Sunday’s 23-13 loss to the Vikings at the Superdome. Add their 2-for-10 performance to the other four victories this season and the Vikings’ league-leading third-down percentage has dipped to 22.2% (14 of 63).
The NFL record for best third-down percentage belongs to the 2019 Patriots at 24.1%. New England gave up 47 third-down conversions, a record-low in a 16-game season. No team has given up that few in a 17-game season.
The Vikings’ pace through five games: 47.6.
The only conversions the Saints had came on third-and-3 and third-and-goal from the 2. They did convert twice on fourth down but failed on their final fourth-down attempt while trailing by 10 late in the fourth quarter.
The Saints had nine possessions. One of them was a 15-play, 66-yard touchdown drive. The other eight produced 76 yards on 28 plays with four three-and-outs, three turnovers and one turnover on downs.
Flores is the NFL’s hottest coordinator and head-coach-(again)-in-waiting. Hands-down.

I saw some stats on him last night on when the D can take him off his first read too -- pretty telling.

I am less worried with BFLo being here. I am resigned to us losing him this year. If he stays that would be a huge bonus.
I am more intrigued/curious about how good Mike Siravo and Ryan Nielsen are. Those could be some interesting house options as I think it would be good to keep some continuity especially if the core of the team is still around. If there is significant turn over then a rebuild of the defense with an outsider is also in play.
So to the insiders here please chime in.
