The 56-yarder with no return ended one of the most important drives of the game. The drive started at the Vikings’ 1 after a takeaway. Jones ran twice for 23 yards, but the drive stalled at the Vikings’ 31. Thorson stepped in and bombed a 56-yarder with no return to the Chicago 13. That’s flipping the field by 86 yards on a day when field position won the game.
And let’s also not forget that Thorson was in only his second game as a holder. On a sloppy day in Chicago, he helped Will Reichard go 3-for-3 on field goal attempts.

Said that to my boy when it happened, flipping the field after that stop at the 1 was a game changer. I heard the announcers say one of the punts was a line drive and I think they got a bit of a return on it. But on a wet, sloppy, windy day, he was crucial and came thru.
Also can't imagine kneeling in that muck waiting for the FG snap. KOC said he sank into the muck when he went out to check on Cashman. Imagine having to kneel there, in the rain with your knee buried in it. While you concentrate on your job.
