Seems like every player in each position group, come contract time wants to be near the top in salary otherwise they feel disrespected. Rumor was Tampa offered Baker Mayfield close to $50m per season but he felt disrespected. What they don't seem to understand, that with a salary cap if they make $50m per season that takes away money from some other players that maybe are paid to protect his privileged ass from being sacked. Oh well you needed more than $50m so we had to cut corners on the offense line. Money and this global mission the league is on is slowly ruining the game.

Fair offer imo.

As the Texans, are you betting he'll become elite? Or stay ok/better than avg?

Personally, I put him at the same level as a Jordan Love

Looks like he's betting on himself to have more success this year than previous ones.

GL to him...

If I’m coming off a playoff run that includes 7 turnovers, I’m taking that first offer and running to the bank.

The league needs to figure out how to develop and make viable something like 45+ QBs.

Winning with a more mid QB on a moderate contract should be a more common occurrence.  It’s just not though.  Teams have to choose between overpaying mid or going with hope as your QB.

Cashing it before they have a chance to realize what their offer was. I mean, Stroud didn't look bad, he looked terrible.

We're missing number of years and guaranteed money

There are 13 QBs currently making over $50M per. I think you can make an argument that Stroud belongs at the bottom end of that group. OROY, Pro Bowl, took his team to the playoffs all three years and has won 3 playoff games, and he's only 24. You either pay him market or you let him walk, and I don't think the Texans are going to do that. I bet he gets 50+

Betting on himself which, good for him. Worked out for Dak and Lamar. Related- someone should maybe tell Stroud he’s not Lamar.

I would guess the hold up isn’t the per year average, but number of years and total guaranteed money.

I have to imagine they offered him something like 2 years $100M. I think if it was more like 4 years $200M with $140M guaranteed, he’d probably be signed right now.

If I were them, I’d give him the Washington Cousins treatment and let him live off one year deals and franchise tags until he shows he actually deserves a bigger bag.

some like to say he is gambling on himself... maybe he is, but Brady was the real gambler and he has the jewelry (albeit rings not bracelets) to show for it. He took less, still made an assload of money, kept the team around him better, and laughed all the way to the bank of canton.

I have a hard time believing that Kraft didn't make sure he was taken care of under the table.

he didnt need to, Brady was a big picture guy. His football money was supplemented with endorsement money.... he made around 333M in football contracts, but added another 200M in endorsement money.

I love Brady and he is the GOAT. I mean, Murray sure gets talked about like he is some Tom Brady (kidding kidding) but I just have a hard time believing Kraft didn't take care of him.

why would they have risked it? if they were doing something under the table that would have destroyed Kraft and the team. I used to think the same as you, but the more I thought about it...to much to risk for the gravy train they were riding. thats not to say that money doesnt get funneled through endorsement deals via back door channels though.
