New Vikings GM Nolan Teasley is discussing one of his first big deals in Minnesota, the extension for right tackle Brian O'Neill: "Working in Seattle, you're aware of what a great player he is. Coming into the building, it's a privilege to get to know him as a person. ... Everyone holds him in such high regard. He's a foundational piece and we're very pleased to keep him here for a long time."

Yes, kinda surprised by length of the contract but glad he's staying.

Am a little surprised. Thought with the drafting of Tiernan there was a chance they would not resign/extend O’Neill. About to turn 31 in September I believe. Hopefully he can stay healthy and avoid the injuries. Will be interesting to see how the contract is structured and see if it’s really more of a 2 or 3 year deal depending on the guaranteed money, other contract terms, etc.

Yeah, kind of assume it is really a 2-3 year deal.

Glad they kept him around, wouldn't feel right losing the cornerstone of the oline right when it should be coming together.

I always looked at this as a when and not if scenario. Was expecting 3 years however. Tiernan kicking inside if Fries falters seems more likely now. But, it’s a good idea to have a potentially solid swing tackle when your starters are typically missing a couple games a year.

Brian O’Neill’s new deal is worth $96 million over four years, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The new money average of $24 million would make O’Neill the fourth-highest paid right tackle in the NFL, behind Tampa Bay’s Tristan Wirfs, Detroit’s Penei Sewell and Philadelphia’s Lane Johnson.

We'll see how the numbers actually work out on the detail, but it’d stand to reason the contract would reduce O’Neill’s 2026 cap number from the $23.12 million figure that was the highest on the team heading into camp.

Whatever the 4th year salary is, he's not seeing that one. This makes the O'Neill+Darrisaw+Jefferson+Addison?+QB? math even more difficult. Jefferson and Darrisaw in '27 are a combined $76 million cap hit. In '28 it climbs to $87 million, after which Jets is UFA. Does anyone get paid on the defense or does this mean AVG is history after this season and Murphy after '27? Do we make the seemingly crazy move of keeping Addison and trading Jefferson?

Good for the '26 and '27 Vikes, but '28 and beyond will make Brez once again earn his money.

It’s nice to have our bookends locked up, but need them both to be healthy long term now.

It’s nice to add the depth with Tiernan and allow him to learn, if they stay healthy. I also am surprised by a 4-year deal, but would also agree that Brez will be working his magic over the next several years, per usual.

This cap number figures into this deal in a very big way. Curious what it will be for this year, and how much more cap room we might have gotten.

So far, I like what Teasley is doing. I like the Jamal Adams signing...a guy he was familiar with (as a Safety). He does not make such a big deal about himself compared to Kwesi. So far, he seems pretty quiet and workmanlike.

Teasley is giving himself space and flexibility to make more moves .

With FO and coaching changes this year the Vikings are now cued in to other rosters and players.

I've always loved when you can draft a guy and keep him until he retires. It doesn't happen very often—Greenway, Kleinsasser, Steve Jordan. I'll be curious to find out when the dead money drops on this contract and how that fits with Addison and, potentially, a new QB contract in 2027. There are teams with two well-paid WRs and a well-paid QB (Cinc). But are there teams with a well-paid QB, two WRs and high-dollar bookends?

We probably gotta do Redmond soon too. Not sure about Gink.
