Hopefully JJ is the first.

Depends on how much (if) u believe the competition makes each better or not? I do believe that to be the case up to a point. And that point is b4 the Ravens Scrimmage.

QB1 needs to be rolling by then and getting the reps.

I am wondering at this point if JJM should have been drafted in the top 10? Did the Vikings blow it not taking Nix? Thats not a question I ever hear asked by Viking fans.

I get that projecting is so hard at QB from college, but JJ's floor was pretty low coming in. Much lower than I anticipated. Heck, look at your comparison between him vs Brees in college; night and day differences in experience and production.

Still rooting for the kid and hope he gets another shot here to start one day in spite of a rocky beginning.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

100% and have felt the same way. I can see some genius behind the idea, but I am still puzzled on the approach.

Pre-draft I saw him as late 2nd/early 3rd. 60 would be more likely than 10 in my book. It doesn't serve guys like Anthony Richardson, Justin Fields, or JJM to overdraft them then put all the weight of that high pick on them when they simply aren't ready. Thanks to Sticky for posting the stats, as I was mind-blown by attempts at a Drew Brees comp. Brees was literally a passing machine at Purdue while JJM ran a run-heavy offense with limited throwing. He might have a stronger arm than Brees but in every other measure of passing ability Brees would come out on top. He just has a long way to go to be any kind of NFL qb imo.

Would Bo Nix have been better? He had more years in college and a lot more throws, but he's a short-yardage specialist (not what KOC wants) with some of the same accuracy issues that JJM has. He's also benefitted from actually playing for a decent offensive coach (albeit one whom none of us can stand) while JJM unfortunately has been injured 2/3 of the time in his brief career. It seems clear in hindsight that KOC wanted Drake Maye and whoever they took after that was a 2nd choice at best.

I agree, everything you said tracks.
KO knew it as well ,and chose to go after Murray.
Why would he do that?
There's a "tell" in that, no one knows for sure what happened , but something impelled KO to change course and go after Murray.
IMHO if JJ and Murray are as good as they think they are,, this competition will bring out the best in both of them.

It's really simple. Despite the development of McCarthy being in the absolute best interest of the franchise long term, OConnell is instead pivoting to Murray and trying to save his own ass hoping Murray runs around and makes enough plays for him to save his job. Don't forget, this was all done prior to Teasley being brought in and he has no ties to OConnell. They can wax poetic all day long about it going a "collaboration" but OConnell wasn't Teasleys hire, he inherited him. The Murray signing was 100% about OConnell trying to save his job, and why, because he did a piss poor job in developing McCarthy to this point. From all the reports of OConnell and the coaching staff essentially alienating McCarthy during his rehab, to zero preseason game reps, to not adjusting his offense to better suit a guy who hadn't played football in almost two years, to fracturing the relationship between the two through the media. It was an absolute Frank Reich-ish job by OConnell last year when it came to the development of McCarthy. Like I said, I hope McCarthy finds his way onto the field at some point this year and kicks ass IN SPITE of OConnell..

Its only smart if the competition was pure, but how can it be? I outlined why it isn't or at least in my opinion. Murray's vet minimum contract makes it oh so convenient. I didn't buy into Supa's take that KOC is covering his ass earlier but....I think now it might be a part of it. But its also wanting better QB play and now he's got 2 options. He's definitely hedging his bets on JJM.

IMO we wouldn't have needed better quarterback play if "the whisperer" had done a better job in his handling and overall development of McCarthy. The failure to make adjustments offensively was stupid, the failure to try and establish a consistent ground game was stupid...especially in light of the offensive line injuries. He wants to run the chuck and duck at all costs and said as much in his post season press conference. Signing a guy in Murray to essentially be his starter, who doesn't fit what he wants to do on offense just reeks of desperation. Safe bet to say going into year 5 that if he doesn't have a successful season that he could be shitcanned at seasons end with Teasley now calling the shots and I think he knows it, and it's why he's rolling the dice on Murray instead of betting on his own ability to develope McCarthy.

Even if he didn't Even if he failed miserably at developing McCarthy, how the hell would anyone know? Dude was 22 years old and played 10 games. What did anyone expect from a 22 year old essentially a rookie? Just don't crash the ship rook. Considering he went 6-4 I would say that part was accomplished. It seemed like signs were pointing up at the end of the season. I can't imagine it's anything less than what Supa says here. An ego stroking exercise or just hoping the Murray can save his job. Either way, in typical fashion, it stunts any future progress the Vikings may have made. Hell even if McCarthy was the worst QB to ever walk, you run his butt out there and find out what you have and if it fails, you draft one of the 5 or 6 first round graded QB's in 27. Now we will be doing the same knuckle drag shuffle on QB's at the end of 26.

I have no idea what the right or wrong decision is but I just feel like in typical Vikings fashion… what ever decision we make at QB will turn out to be the wrong decision. It’s just a matter of time….

Make no mistake about it. I really believe that JJ will go on to another team and some will be left behind in a circle empty handed. He just has that mentality to stick it to the Vikings if we made that move.

You're leaving out a big part of the process. The decision will be proven right. We'll be given months of joy, excitement and legitimate hope for a title, only to watch it come crashing down at the end, not just dashing our title hopes, but taking with it all hopes for long term QB stability. That's a bit more Vikings.

🤣 I am a bit more of a polarizing personality. MB is a bit more reserved and calm. Leave it to him to say the absolute most Vikings outcome. Cheers to MB!

Kyler Murray will do his one year and move on...He's in it for a long-term payday and it's not going to be with the Vikings.

I want long-term Qb stability with exemplary play is all 😁

You have to go back to #10 to find a Viking QB who started consecutive 5 seasons or more. Pepp and KC each had 4 during their run.

I dont give a F if its K1 or Nein, lets just get it settled. I hate to have to ask JIT to begin scrutinizing 2027 QB's.

The football gods owe me for decades of futility in cheering on a sports team.
