OT: Tell me about your dog or dogs.....
Most of us have them.....we love the shit out of them....so tell me about your dogs! π
Our current dog: his name is Trouble and he's a rescue. He'll be 14 years old this year, got him from the pound when he was 4. Pomeranian (booo, hiss, little shit dog!) ....yes, yes I thought the same myself not too long ago. But I didn't know about throwback Pomeranians, that's what Trouble is. So instead of 4, 5 or 6 lbs. this guy is 19 lbs. Its a breed that was originally a Spitz, which is a 30+lb dog. Personality galore. A little badass. They're built like a little sled dog, the bigger throwbacks. Anyway, its obvious I hate the little shit, he's my pic in this forum. ππ
I've had all kinds of dogs my whole life, many have been hunting breeds when I was younger as my whole family hunted everything. So we had Springer Spaniels, Beagles, Labs, Water Spaniels, Retrievers and then a Malamute, dachshund and a poodle of all things.
So let's hear it....
When we started our family many years ago, we had 2 pugs: Winston & Churchill.
They were with us 12 and 15 years.
2 English Labs after that (a yellow and a black) miss them both terribly
After they passed, I wanted one more lab pup b4 I got too old to handle one and we got Wilbur 4 years ago from same breeder.
We were going to pair him with a pug and instead Walter (Pit/Lab/Basset) was found abandoned and so we adopted him thinking he'd be may 40-45 lbs...He was found at 25 lbs and he's 76 lbs now.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!Β
Love Black Labs, last one I got as a pup and was blown away by how many things she did naturally. First time off the dock she did a double retrieve, one in her mouth and pushed the second buoy in. I'm not going to get another, I'm mid 20th century vintage, and don't have the space or energy to give another pup a fun energetic upbringing. Also doing a lot of traveling and hate boarding a good friend. I was truly blessed to have one as good as Nelle, I'll be happy with memories of her.
Too old for a new dog now, but loved the Golden Retrievers we have had over the years. Sure miss having them around.

I hear that...That exactly what I was thinking getting that "one more" Lab pup 4 years ago...
He's been by my side this whole cancer journey as a bonus and support to me.
Goldens are awesome too.

He sure was then. That was a couple years ago. He's older and fatter now, like his human.

This is Teddy. Heβs a Coton de Tulear. Heβs obviously mastered the βbone flipβ which heβs proudly displaying.

This here is Gertrude Belulah. She is a rescue mix from Browning, MT. Lots of working dog in her, mostly Australian Cattle Dog. Too smart for her own good, and don't mess with her momma or she will freaking get ya!

This is Henry ... Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Henry passed about a year ago. He was 15. I miss him.
This is Goose, also a Corgi. Next dog up.
this almost feels like a memorial day event.... I dont know how to upload pics, but about 25 years ago i brought Chauncy home to the farm, I thought I was going to get a chocolate lab, but when I got there all were left were about 6 yellows... I laid down on the floor and the first one that jumped on my chest was my boy.... i put him in a shallow box on the floor of my truck and headed back home, as I was leaving town KFAN gave a rundown on the previous nights twolves results and billups had a monster, when they said his name on the radio the pup jumped out of his box like he heard his name called. when I got home my kids ( toddlers at the time waned disney names ( Tud wanted bambi which is kinda sick considering as an adulty he has become a trophy deer hunter) anyway I got 14 years with my best canine friend. he was a best, at his peak he was about 100#, could run about 30 mph for over a mile sustained, and was about the best baby sitter a father could ask for. when my kids were about 3 ad 5 they were out in the back yard, got to close to some turkey chicks, and the hen turkey was protecting her young, ( they are psycho about their kids) came busting out of the woods at my son, Chauncey boy beat the bitch off. ( he may or may not have had a turkey dinner) He was not a pet, he was family.
I didnt think I wanted another dog after Chaunce, but Tud was in HS and he wanted another dog ( and I admit coming home to an empty yard, and not having a chores friend was pretty dismal.) so we started looking for another farm dog. We had some friend whose red lab bitch had been fence jumping bred by a pure white Great Pyrenees' and the pups were so awesome so I set my sights on one of them, unfortunately they all passed quickly due to a viral thing, but a few months later Ruby ( the red lab mother) was knocked up again by the same white beast and we got one of the pups. Tud picked out a very curious and out going female. ( they actually have a name for the cross called a Pyradoor, I highly recommend if you have the room/acres) Curry was about the smartest and most stubborn dog I have been around. She had total of 1 accident in the house as a pup ( she was only a few weeks old when we adopted her due to the size of her litter and the emaciation of Ruby trying to sustain those pups) We had Curry for about 8 years and my girl got bone cancer, we gave her one last year, all the pain med and therapy we could find, but when it became obvious that she was in pain, we said good bye.
I havent been able to find another farm friend to replace her, but I am looking! I am almost ashamed to say I have adopted a few barn kittens to fill the void, but kittens are just not the same, and without a dominant canine presence mother nature thinks my yard is theirs, pretty much anything the coteau has to offer has taken up residence.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?
I have to partake in this one! I worked at an animal shelter for 8 years in Florida

and built my Fur Herd....4 wonderful furry friends who each have their sad, but happy stories. Love my my Fur Herd! Meet Sota, ZaZa, Lemmy and Goochie!
Let's win one....then two

This thread makes me want to go out and find another dog. It's tempting, but I can't forget what it is like when I had to bury my dogs at the end of their days. I don't have the heart to go through that again!
