I'm glad we are reading positive press about JJ early in OTA's.

I'll leave it at that on June 12.

Let all enjoy our summers, get this decided early TC and move on to Ravens Scrimmage.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Its all so silly. I don't know that I can trust any source to report what they are seeing, good or bad for either Kyler or JJ.

Not from OTA!!

But enough reports are saying McCarthy trajectory is positive and I'll run with that for now.

I think it's all pretty meaningless right now. The good that we can take from this is that McCarthy has definitely improved by all accounts. And that is excellent news for all who bleed purple. But being in his 3rd year in the offense, compared to the 3rd week for Murray, one would think JJ would have the early advantage.

For Murray to come out on top, what will matter most is how much of the playbook he can master between now and the start of training camp. He doesn't have to know it completely, but enough to give KOC confidence that with more 1st-team reps, his learning curve promises to be steeper than McCarthy's given his experience advantage. He has a good month and a half of independent study. Given his reputation, this may be the crucible in which he'll be judged.

For McCarthy to win, I think he has to continue showing improvement with layering and off-speed pitches. Given his knowledge of the offense, even a small improvement in his maturity and composure could see him get the job in a genuine upset.

It's really hard to see a situation where an experienced, but still young, weapon like Murray is holding a clipboard, so I still think he comes out on top, but it might be closer than most of us thought. And that's a good thing.

I think you get more info from the QB statements. Early on JJ was the one a bit bristly and stating its the coaches responsibility to coach them, while Murray seem really positive and receptive. Now this week Murray is stating this is tough because he isn't getting all the #1 reps. JJ seeming much more positive and receptive in his statement.

My personal opinion is some of the draft picks lean me towards they were intending for JJ to continue to be the starting QB or the long term solution. Some of the statements lent me to that Murray was the current focus. Granted all of this was done prior to the new GM being announced.

Its all a crap shoot but JJ does sound like he is doing better in practice which is a good development.

I hate it. I swear, politics, sports, pop culture, 90% of the people on twitter are fucking morons. But sadly it remains the best place to get up to the minute news.

Well, I hated it before. I dropped both Twatter and Dumbook 4-5+ years ago. I don't know how Elon could have broken it, because it was already broken, but to each their own. I don't have any social media other than this Vikings stuff.

It's not surprising to me that these "reporters" are flip-flopping from one day to the next, because it's primarily built from in the moment for instantaneous views. It's more important to be first than to be right.

hearing the reports on all of them I have a hard time seeing any of it as anything other than some sort of joke. sure they can help kids cheat on their school work, and can make some impressive fakes for about anything a person wants, but I think we are going to see more bad than good come from its advancement as long as the drivers are controlled by profits and not improving humanity.

Not sure that I buy into this MB...I agree with you on the conclusion (meaningless right now), but not the process. I believe some of us (me) were pretty much assuming that KOC was handing the keys to the Ferrari before the OTA's had even kicked off.

The fact that JJM appears to have closed the gap is a good thing for the entire QB room. And that the K1 whining about only getting half the #1 snaps and trying to still learn a complex offense...perhaps was more telling.

When the Vikings were in the throes of their GM search, I commented here that if Brez got the job (which I assumed was a gimme), that we could feel good that he was fully vetted and the decision to have him stay in the GM job was above reproach.

Well yeah, I was surprised with the final choice too.

In that vein, I do think that QB1 has become a closer competition than most of us thought, and just like you said, that's a good thing.

Please God, just one Lombardi before I die.

A few days after Teasley got hired JJM was suddenly singing a different tune to the media, and so was Kyler.

I can't speak on Groks historical accuracy, but that is the logical conclusion. If both QBs look pretty even, you should go with the one with more potential to grow and is on an upward trajectory.

The real flaw here is that we (the media, fans, AI) are trying to come to a conclusion based on snippets of reports based on fractions of the overall practice time, most of which no one has seen, in underwear where neither of these QBs flaws will show up.

AI will answer the question you ask.

The problem is not what do the two QBs look like in fucking June but rather, the guy listened to opinions from local meth head Alec Lewis. Who's ok when he sources info but is only as good as you or I when it comes to translating underwear camp activities into meaningful takes on real football.

No wait, actually he's probably worse than you or I because he's serious about it.

The thing is... if JJ McCarthy is keeping up with Kyler Murray in terms of making the throws KOC wants in this offense, he's in command, and there is not a noticeable difference in ability to operate this offense... you stick with JJ McCarthy. He's the guy you drafted, you are developing him, and if he's playing as well as an experienced veteran with some hardware earlier in his career, that's what you wanted. JJ can start, it gives Kyler time to keep getting acclimated and be ready in the event of an injury or if JJ McCarthy struggles for an extended stretch of the season. That is the best of both worlds and keeps the controversy low. That said we'll learn a lot about where these two are at once training camp starts. Does Kyler's knowledge of the playbook and comfort with the throws he's going to be asked to make improve? Does the improved footwork and lower body mechanics JJ has shown in OTAs and mini camp stick once the bullets start flying or does he revert back to inconsistent mechanics?

I find it encouraging that JJ McCarthy is making this a real competition. You can tell it is by the fact that Kyler is frustrated with splitting reps yet. It's because the young guy is giving the coaches something to think about. I think Kyler expected to come in here and clearly outperform JJ and that hasn't been the case.
