Thinking about what KOC said today on decision timing for QB1.

Do they need to have their #1 selected by TC?

Or, is TC where this "should" get decided?

JJ or Kyler, QB1 needs all the reps they can get with the other 1's during T camp in prep for GB.

I can also see strong arguments to let it go into mid-August.

Where do you fall on this one? Another take all together?

Okay, here's looking into my crystal ball...
Training camp dates are officially July 26 to Aug 14.
There are three pre-season games...Aug 15 (Giants), Aug 22 (Ravens with a joint practice with the Ravens days prior) and Aug 29 (Broncos).
I do not believe KOC will make the decision/announcement of QB1 during training camp. No real urgency to decide prematurely. My guess is that it will be the week of the Ravens joint practices/game. I am guessing that both JJM and K1 will split reps with Wentz & Brosmer against the Giants, and again during joint practices. I am predicting that KOC will want to see both likely candidates in real game action (vs just underwear) before making that final decision.
So there you have it...third week of August.
Write it down.

There's a side of this competition that no one has brought up, or if they have , I missed it.

In the 7 years since Kyler was #1 overall, he's never faced any real competition. He's been anointed as the starter without any real challenge. Looking at his stats it shows, he's been good but he hasn't improved over time.. He's been coasting.

Every thread I read looks thru the lens of JJ improving/growing thru the competition.

What's being missed is Kyler needs to pushed to improve the exact same way JJ does.

Imo this competition will push them both, let it play out.

The key for the coaching staff is to find that demarcation line, where their decision is thorough but not taking too long & robbing Qb1 (and the offense) time to prep for GB.

Listening to coach, it sounds like he's confident he knows where thats at.

I think the sports scribes need to chill on both biases and rhetoric. All the (over)reactions to every syllable in the press conferences, the level of toe drag on passes, etc, is already exhausting in a time when we're all starving for real team news.

Chill it just a bit, boys and girls, call it like it is.

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

I think it was pretty clear in what KOC said the other day about having a plan once they get to training camp. I think it means they won't choose the QB before then, and that camp practices will be designed to determine the starter quickly, within a week or two. He probably wants to see how each performs in 11s and in pads, with pass rushes and full defenses before making the decision. But I think it will be made before the 1st preseason game because a lot of reckless speculation will occur in the media based on who starts that game, who plays and who doesn't.

This 6-week break gives Murray an opportunity to dig into the playbook and start training camp with a better understanding of the offense. We'll see if that happens.

IMO, it'll be announced before preseason game 1 for sure, maybe as soon August 3rd or 4th. It benefits QB1 greatly to do it early and we know this isn't really a competition for several reasons as discussed.

Eh...I think it is, more than some are saying, simply because both potential starters have huge issues and histories that loom over their heads. For all of JJM's difficulties this season, KM1 has plenty of spotty history/availability on his plate, and being paid real money to f**k off is a helluva thing.

We'll all see when we see, but I know that I'm skeptical of getting through a season with just one QB starting the games, at this point.

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

did murray really come here to compete for the starting job? I dont think so. They can say to the contrary all they want, but if he ever thought the job wasnt his he would have taken a more sure offer, even with a lower level of talent around him. He has this year to prove his wares for a new contract and he wont make near the money if he isnt playing, thus no real competition or imo there would be no murray.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

But did he? He came for a cup of coffee and then smartly bolted to a guaranteed starter's job in Indy. I think this blindsided KOC and the Vikings, Danny Dimes was their insurance in case the growing pains were to rough for JJ initially. I think Jones knew what he was going to do all along IMO.
