I have to say I am more than a little annoyed that we are this far into the offseason and have yet to hire a GM. This is beyond weird to me. A GM should be here to help layout the longterm vision of the team. They should be here even during offseason activities to see how things are unfolding and readying the team to implement the vision that they are bringing. I just cannot imagine running a business without a full suite of professionals to help steer the business and to do so without one of the most important positions on the staff. It's just..... headshakingly odd.

Is this thing STILL on?

No, I'm not buying into that narrative...
I think KOC is a better coach and person vs where you have netted out with him.
I just hope we get a smart guy as GM, I still miss the days of Finks, Gilliam and Reichow lol!

And it is just a coincidence that all of the remaining 5 guys have ties to KOC or to the Viking organization except for Teasley.

Performance of your boss does not directly translate to future success of the Asst GM. But, I do think it gives you a leg up.

It's a good ole boys network, no surprise for me there. I'm just not seeing smoke let alone a conspiracy fire here?

These are candidates who for the most part come from winning orgs and have solid scouting experience too. Ownership stated early on that they wanted to improve on the scouting acumen at the GM level. So I think they are attempting to do just that with most of the remaining candidates (exception Brez).

I'd take Brett Veach in a heartbeat, but there's no way KC will let him go easily...and it doesn't sound like he fits the circle of friends. He's a visionary and has been very successful in the scouting department.

Where does this not apply? First, let's all move past the old phrase "good ole boys club/network" and realize that it's always just been the same thing and that is, "it's all in who you know". That's life, not just in the NFL or any sports industry. People feel comfortable with people they know, trust, and maybe are like-minded.

The truly successful leaders are those who hire people that are not simply "yes people", rather, they are ones who are going to challenge them, possibly smarter than them, and/or fit a void or blind spot for that leader.

Completely agree. Not sure why fans would get upset about this or not understand this is how the world works. Especially in this case where a shared philosophy and strategic alignment and buy-in work so well as synergy in a football organization. And the assertion is this would somehow be bad.....not at all. This isn't cronyism, these candidates have succeeded on their own merits in other organizations.

I agree and (trust me if u want) I totally get it after 35 years corp career...I think there is a fine balance of familiarity and knowing when its the right time/right person to bring in fresh perspectives...And that is exactly what I think the front office needs at this time.

I don't disagree with this at all. I'm all for fresh perspectives, but I would prefer those folks to come from winners only. That means on paper, I'd throw out the Bills and the Broncos unless they come from other winning programs during their tenure there.

Lol quite a theory by whoever this guy is, but if anybody thinks Kevin OConnell hasn't been massively involved in every quarterback decision since he's been here...you are a putz. If you think OConnell has just been some poor timid mouse in the corner who's voice and opinions weren't being heard the entire time...you are a putz.

This from an article on the teams web page prior to the 2024 draft;

"I think a lot of people who were involved in that process would tell you this was something new to all of them, and I would add myself in that regard," Adofo-Mensah said. "Since we got here, Kevin's really been adamant about, when you select a quarterback, it's about — it's a marriage. It's that serious, and that level of commitment and work that should go into it. And so, some of my thoughts, the things I've talked about with interviewing and different things like that, and maybe how we measure and process things, those are kind of some of my inputs," Adofo-Mensah said. "But Kevin's been really a big driver of this process, and having completed it, I completely see why, and it's been a great value."

Let's also not forget that OConnell, along with Kwesi, signed up for the "competitive rebuild" which was always centered around drafting a franchise quarterback and building around that quarterback while he was on his rookie contract. Waaaah!!! So they couldn't trade up for Drake Maye when everybody knew it wasnt happening, well, you didn't have to draft McCarthy. Could have drafted Bo Nix instead, but if you think OConnell didn't 100% give McCarthy the "whisperer" stamp of approval, once again...you are a putz. He's never (and I mean never) developed a young quarterback. I still think McCarthy can be a really good player, maybe not for the "whisperer," but for somebody.

Thats been my prevailing take the last few years as well...

Anyways, lots of talk out there that the GM job is Brez's to lose.

I will be disappointed if thats the route they go. Not mad, but disappointed

I understand that sentiment.

But, I’d look at it via the narrow prism of this past offseason.

Prudent but potentially impactful FA class.

Manipulated the cap in such a way to end up with serious cap in 27 if we need to re-sign Turbo Tark.

Best draft class in recent memory. I think Brez did a great job of blending the coaching staff’s preferences with the talent available in this class.

Received above market compensation for Greenard.

All that being said, I’d prefer a new voice in the building. Not to upset the Apple cart but to add a different perspective. But, if it is Brez, and I extrapolate this season’s offseason performance over the next couple years, I can see great things happening.

All good points...

It's a narrow prism and I'm not clear on the role he played in those decisions - which do look positive early on.

Like I said, disappointed not enraged.
