Vikings request GM interview with Bills assistant GM Terrance Gray

The Vikings have started the search process for their next General Manager and the first outside candidate for the job has been identified.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that they have requested an interview with Bills assistant GM Terrance Gray. The Vikings fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in January and executive V.P. of football operations Rob Brzezinski assumed the duties with a plan in place to conduct a full search after the draft.

Gray has been with the Bills since 2017, but he spent the previous 11 years as a scout for the Vikings so there he has familiarity with the organization ahead of any interview. He has also worked for the Chiefs during his time in the NFL.

Brzezinski could also be a candidate to take the job on a permanent basis and more candidates will likely surface in the coming days.

I mean, at least these aren't "outside the box/reinvent the wheel" type candidates....but why are we interviewing guys from teams that haven't drafted very well (at least recently)? And count me as nervous potentially plucking anybody from the previous regime in New England, coaches or otherwise. I know it's early in the process, but thusfar, not a very impressive list of candidates IMO.

I’ve got to think this is the guy. At least, it’s my preferred guy. Rams have built in a variety of ways.

I'd probably rank the current candidates this way;

  1. Teasley

  2. McKay

  3. Alexander

  4. Gray

  5. Gillen

  6. Zeigler (this is the guy who used a top 10 pick on Tyree Wilson with his only 1st round pick as GM in Vegas)

You didn’t hear this from me but: 😈😇

There are now two more known candidates for the Vikings’ General Manager vacancy.

According to multiple reports, Minnesota has put in requests to interview Rams assistant G.M. John McKay and Seahawks assistant G.M. Nolan Teasley.

That brings the club’s number of known requests up to seven: McKay, Teasley, Vikings interim G.M. Rob Brzezinski, Bills assistant G.M. Terrance Gray, Titans assistant G.M. Dave Ziegler, 49ers assistant G.M. RJ Gillen, and Chargers assistant G.M. Chad Alexander.

McKay, in particular, could be one to watch for the position, as he worked alongside Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell with the Rams. McKay was Los Angeles’ director of pro personnel and O’Connell was the team’s offensive coordinator when the club won Super Bowl LVI to cap the 2021 season.

What, no Grigson…!? 😱

Me thinks whomever the choice is is going to come in and do some long overdue housecleaning. The Grigson days should be numbered in short order

Whatever happened to code of secrecy lol!

I was asked not to say anything... but I got a phone call today, I turned them down flat since it appears that they had already contacted pretty much everyone else on the planet first, i figured they were just checking a box with me anyway.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Well...I think Brez is a legit candidate. I was surprised he threw his hat into the ring to be honest. Who needs the GM headaches at his point in tenure?

OTOH, I think he got a feels for how the job could be and said why not?

I like Brzez, but some of these other candidates are so far ahead of him when it comes to scouting that its not something that can be overlooked. Brzez is a contract and numbers guy who would have to rely heavily on guys like Grigson and the coaches on player/prospect evaluations. We just got out of a highly unsuccessful experiment with a lot of those same type of dynamics, and in my opinion, we really need an outsider with a solid background in scouting and roster building. Like I said, I don't know how the recommendation to the Wilfs isn't McKay or Teasley based on resume. Both have been the understudy to two of the absolute best GM's in the business and their team success speaks for itself
