So let's hear it on our favorite polarizing player, Kyler Murray!

How do you think Kyler Murray is going to work out in Minnesota? Closes 3 days from now
He's going to kill it, deep playoff run and possible discussions for a long-term contract 35% (9)
He'll have his moments, but injured a few games and too much hero ball. Very average. 54% (14)
I just can't see Murray being successful in a KOC style offense, he's overrated....might not be QB1 12% (3)

Good encapsulation from Tom P.

  • Very competitive situation

  • Probably not the friendliest QB room right now lol

  • Two injury riddled QB's

  • Who can stay healthy and catch fire?

Now we just gotta watch it all unfold the next 12 weeks. Very intriguing season for the Vikings imo, hard as hell to predict W/L imo.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I can see Murray being between the first two choices. I think he will bring some exciting big play ball, but will also have some headshake moments. I do think he will have a rebound year and make next offseason interesting.

I honestly have no idea what to expect. It is disappointing that after everything regarding the QB position we are entering another season with so much uncertainty. I was more optimistic going into the last two seasons, but now it seems like we are all over the place with our QB room with a smorgasbord of QBs hoping one steps up.

I don’t have much desire to speculate seriously on this.

There’s way too many variables. Will he get injured. How close is the competition. Does KOC actually tailor his scheme to fit the QBs?

If you wanted me to guess how it’s going to go, I’d say KOC doesn’t change his scheme much, but Murray looks pretty good, but gets injured and keeps playing because of the competition and gets a season ending injury. JJM plays, looks good, and Murray finds a new team next year.

I’d take that. If JJM looks like a starter after Murray gets injured..like he always does.

JMO, the best thing that could happen to this franchise is for JJ McCarthy to win the battle and be QB1. I don't think there's any debate. That would mean a lot of really good things if that were to happen. I just don't think its very likely, mostly because KOC wants Murray to be his Neo for his Matrix. But....just sayin'....if somehow it were fair and somehow McCarthy was QB1.....that's optimal. I said this a few weeks ago but I expect JJ to have a really good camp.

I'm getting behind whomever is QB1.....but I think it might be more interesting than I thought a few weeks ago.

Depends on how rigid KOC is with his playbook - If he works to Murrays skillset, this could be a fun ride !!

If not, I personally believe Carson will vault JJ

NFL insider says Vikings aren't just handing QB1 job to Kyler Murray

Story by Michael Gallagher

2 min read

When the Minnesota Vikings signed former Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray earlier this offseason, many believed he had already passed J.J. McCarthy on the depth chart for the team’s starting job.

However, it seems that Murray may not be Minnesota’s QB1 that easily.

During an appearance on the “Rich Eisen Show” on Friday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed that the Vikings are approaching training camp as if both Murray and McCarthy are dead even.

“I don’t know how friendly that quarterback room is going to be,” Pelissero stated. “It is going to be a very competitive quarterback room. … But Kyler comes in and hasn’t played in this offense. J.J. has got two years in it.

“… It’s going to be interesting to watch these guys duke it out because you’ve got J.J., who’s got at least a foundation in the offense, you’ve got Kyler, who’s shown ability — he’s been to Pro Bowls, he’s been to the playoffs — and he’s only 28 years old. To me, this is going to be the most fascinating quarterback competition in the NFL. And from everything that I have understood, it is truly wide open.”

McCarthy had a tumultuous first season as the Vikings’ starter.

Though Minnesota went 6-4 in games he started, McCarthy threw for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with a 72.6 passer rating. The offense struggled to move the chains, and McCarthy’s decision making was suspect at best.

Murray, on the other hand, is looking for a fresh start after things soured in Arizona.

The former No. 1 overall pick started his career with a bang. He won Offensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl in each of the following two seasons. But since then, Murray has battled injuries and inconsistency.

Whoever the starting QB is next season, they’ll have one heck of a supporting cast. The Vikings signed former San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings on Thursday. He’ll join Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison as one of the top WR trios in the league in addition to Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson.
