On to week 2 against Da Bears. We've got our work cut out for us, for sure. I'm thinking Murray will be out & Wentz plays. Though, it doesn't matter who starts, we're still going to need to rely heavily on the defense. (IMO)

Vikings Week 2 preview: Behind enemy lines with Bears Wire

The Minnesota Vikings looked downright awful in the first half, and in the third quarter, they somehow looked even more lost. That led to a fourth quarter many expected to be a bloodbath for the Vikings, but instead the defense and Brian Flores had other plans.

The defense said, "Fine, I will do it myself," and they completely changed the game's momentum.

After turning things around in Week 1 against the Packers, they have to play a full game against the Bears in Week 2. Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson bring an offense to meet Brian Flores' defense coming off a 59-point performance. On offense, the Vikings will need another big game from Carson Wentz to overcome a tough defense in Chicago.

There is a lot up in the air, which is why we are going behind enemy lines and talking with Bears Wire. We spoke to Bears Wire contributor Mike Pendleton, and he answered some questions we had ahead of Week 2.

Q: The Bears' offense looked like it was from a Madden simulation in Week 1, which part of it was the most surprising?

A: The most surprising part of the Chicago Bears offensive display was that Kalif Raymond was the team’s leading receiver in the win over Carolina. Raymond was thought to be a WR3 option at best, and potentially fourth option behind Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and Colston Loveland, but Loveland didn’t haul in a single reception in the win. That might also be the scariest part of this team’s offense, when Kalif Raymond and Cole Kmet are making big plays, and the top playmakers are just waiting in the wings.

Q: Bryce Young was able to carve up the Bears' defense in Week 1, is the secondary set to suffer a setback in 2026 or will Dennis Allen make adjustments?

A: There should be hope that Dennis Allen can adjust the secondary to help slow down opposing quarterbacks, especially with veteran coach Al Harris and the job he did last season. Nahshon Wright became a Pro Bowler last year, while Kevin Byard led the NFL in interceptions, showing that even though the defense struggled, they made the most out of their takeaway opportunities. Here’s hoping they can figure that out this year as well.

Q: Who in the Bears' offense is the x-factor they need to worry about most?

A: While there’s been plenty of talk about the pass catchers that the Bears have, their biggest x-factor has to be running back D’Andre Swift. The 124 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground are definitely something the Vikings will need to prepare for, but he had just one reception for 10 yards, and he’s capable of much more as a receiver out of the backfield.

Q: Which matchup in the game are you most excited to watch?

A: There’s no hesitation, it has to be Jaylon Johnson and the entire Chicago Bears secondary against Justin Jefferson. It will most certainly take the entire secondary to try and slow Jefferson down, but if Johnson is matched up on him most of the game, that’s the best matchup on paper. This matchup gets magnified by how Carson Wentz locked in on Jefferson in their Week 1 victory over Green Bay, and it must be top priority.

Q: Prediction and score

A: The two games between these two teams were decided by a total of 5 points, with each team taking a win on the other’s home territory. Minnesota has been bit by the injury bug in a big way, being without Kyler Murray and Jordan Mason, two important pieces to the offense and I think that will hold them back. The Vikings will still score, but not like Carolina did last week: Bears 38, Vikings 24

Vikings and Bears Forecasted to Be a Wet One

The Chicago office of the National Weather Service has painted a murky picture for the weather this Sunday around game time.

“The heaviest rain may fall before kickoff, but it’s also possible that Soldier Field gets soaked during the game. We just don’t know yet,” began Nelson. “The National Blend of Models — created by the National Weather Service to combine probabilistic outputs from dozens of prediction models — is currently showing potential for close to an inch of rain in Chicago between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday.”

Nelson also mentions that when the National Blend of Windows is isolated to a six-hour window between 1 P.M. and 7 P.M., the Chicago area could be looking at half an inch of rain in that time alone. The Vikings and Bears might luck out by avoiding the rain, but Nelson pointed out that they won’t be able to hide from wind gusts of up to 30 MPH.
