Jakobe Thomas ~ S ~ Miami
98th Pick ~ Jakobe Thomas ~ S ~ Miami
LIVE WELL ~ LOVE MUCH ~ LAUGH OFTEN
I didn't watch him at all before the draft. But the kid's a real snot knocker.

Love this at :19 to :35. You see Thomas backpedal with his eyes on the QBs eyes. Because he's watching the QB, he doesn't fall for the inside go route. He plants, drives forward and gets the pick six. Beautifully played.

Thinking we'd take a safety in the 1st or 2nd, I didn't spend any time on the others. I like his play style, his instincts and even the way he interviews. You can tell he's batshit nuts about football. That's an underrated quality. He and Banks are a lot alike in that regard.

Thomas picks off CJ Bailey then gestures at him to come over and get trucked into the end zone, lol. I like this kid already.
He's a bad mamma jamma. This will soon be BFlo's favorite player.

Thomas is a dawg, straight up.
Jakobe Thomas
Safety
6'1" 211 lbs, Miami
Pre-Draft AnalysisThomas is a very physical box safety who plays with fearlessness around the line of scrimmage. When blitzing, he plays with good timing and triggers quickly. He takes good pursuit angles with very good closing speed. Thomas is a physical, downhill tackler but struggles more in space than when in the box, where he is very active and makes his presence felt. Thomas will overpursue at times but usually disrupts plays upon contact. He plays with active hands and is good at punching or ripping out the ball. He shows the ability to flip his hips to turn and run with receivers in man coverage but has trouble with shiftier receivers in space. -- Scouts Inc.
Post-Draft AnalysisWe've been waiting two days for the Vikings to address their safety need, and they finally did. The Fiesta Bowl MVP is an attacking defender who also excels on special teams. So much has been said about Minnesota needing to find a long-term replacement for Harrison Smith. Though a player selected 98th really shouldn't have those expectations, Thomas will factor into the team's plans as it figures out what the safety position looks like in 2027 and beyond. -- Matt Miller
He is a dawg and I thought it more than once watching that D last year. He fit right in
Canes and IU were full of dawgs!
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Yeah, he's going to be an enforcer out there when he earns a spot on the field. Guessing he'll get a heavy dose of special teams right away... Returners better have their head on a swivel.

He's definitely going to need some simmering time...
The ceiling is high with this one.

unfortunately that will be a 15 yard penalty in the NFL. No way you get to put the crown of your helmet into a QBs chin at this level.

I remember that exact play and he should have been flagged for it then...Maybe even ejected.

with the "targeting" shit in college, absolutely should have been lifted from the game, forcible contact with the crown initiated by the defender. hopefully he can find a happy medium between "Thug U" and smart football play.

This is the pick I'm most excited to see. Watching film, this kid is special

He is going to have to tone it down, but this is him: he's going to bring the wood. He's going to make a boneheaded penalty or two until BFlo lights him up.

I'll take it. It's a lot easier to tone a guy down than to get a timid player to play with more physicality.

Is it though? Seems when the pressure is at its highest typically we see returns to the true player. You can maybe harness that mentality, but I dont think you can cure it.
