Vikings @ Steelers

Amazing after having to see Rodgers 2x a year, we then have to see him with the Jets and now Steelers, I really hope the defense will take it to him this week and hopefully this is the last time we will have to play him, unless the Steelers somehow make the Super Bowl too this year :)  .

Vikings draw two veteran QBs in Europe who aren't going to be as fooled as Browning was. But both QBs are shells of what they once were. And the Steelers in particular don't have much of a running game or a defense. I can't see the Vikings dropping this one. I can see it against the Browns though. That defense is absolutely stacked. 

My biggest dilemma: do I really start with a Guinness at 7:30 am? I'm not a fan of Irish Coffee, but it sounds a wee bit more magically delicious than Guinness at the crack of dawn. 

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will face the Vikings on Sunday for the 31st time, more than any other opponent, in his NFL career.

This will also be the 23rd time he sees “old friend” Harrison Smith, as Rodgers called the Vikings safety this week.

Of course, this is the first time they will face off in Dublin.

“It’s obviously a little bit different, but the things that he can do and is capable of — he still has it,” Smith said of the former Packers quarterback, “He can still make every throw. He’s obviously in great command of everything pre-snap and post-snap. He’s a very unique player to play against. ... His awareness and kind of his efficiency even with stuff you don’t notice: his ball handling, his fakes, stuff like that. It’s really high-level.”

Rodgers, 41, is off to a 2-1 start in Pittsburgh, where he signed in June after briefly talking with Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell in March. The Vikings chose not to pursue Rodgers as a free agent, but he’s got their attention this week. Rodgers’ teams have a 17-12-1 record against the Vikings in his career, losing last year’s game with the Jets in London.

Smith, 36, was asked if he ever could’ve envisioned this matchup lasting to 2025. The active NFL interceptions leader, Smith has nabbed three of his 37 career picks off Rodgers.

“It’s probably more impressive on his side of things,” Smith said. “This is his 21st year. I only have 14. It’s crazy when you see that on a scouting report.”

Defensive coordinator Brian Flores began a chorus of Vikings employees this week lauding Rodgers’ remaining arm talent.“One of the all-time greats,” Flores said. “He can still play at a high level. The velocity on the throws is there, the touch is there, the movement is there.”

Production has been sporadic so far for Rodgers, who threw for 244 yards and four touchdowns in the Steelers’ Week 1 win over the Jets. He had just 203 yards in a loss to the Seahawks and 139 yards in last week’s win over the Patriots. He’s thrown three touchdowns to three interceptions over the last two weeks.

“I can play better,” Rodgers told Pittsburgh reporters this week. “Sometimes you just have to take what the defense gives you and be comfortable with that. ... I just need to be disciplined like I usually am.”

Rodgers said he’s wary of Flores’ blitz schemes. Vikings defenders know they walk a fine line in trying to throw off Rodgers before the snap. “It’s hard,” cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. said. “Watching him on film, a safety will turn his shoulders and he kind of knew and would check into a play knowing what defense they were in.”

That was an ugly 7 qtrs of football, worse than I could've imagine given how prepped (I thought) the nest was.

I could see someone that young taking it all on himself.

I'm exactly torn on this.

On one hand, I want him to get the reps to get the poise to get past as many of the rookie tendencies as possible. On the other hand, we're sharing first place in the division right now and I'm starting to see the kid as kind of fragile...so, I want him as healed up as possible before throwing him back into the deep end.

If Wentz shows more of the same ability and poise he showed last week, I doubt JJM takes a snap until after the bye.

6:30am kick off for us out here. MB- haven’t had a drink in 45 years so it will just be coffee, maybe a muffin, the dogs and me cheering our boys on. The dogs (all 4 are Viking fans) have told me they want to see a couple of RODGERS TO RODGERS COMPLETIONS!

I like overseas games better then Monday night games thats for sure!!

lol, now this is a question that deserves thoughtful answers. On its face, yes....it might seem a Guinness at 7:30 am is adventurous, but I've done this at the airport where time doesn't exist. And it is creamy and smooth, resembles coffee in color and I would give you a thumbs up to do so. I envision zero regrets in doing so, but you can't go wrong with an Irish coffee. I will be having Baileys and coffee until I transition into Prosecco and orange juice for kickoff. A nice asiago cheese bagel and cream cheese at halftime to soak up the beverages and the long day of football ahead is attainable without a nap.

Not surprising to me at least. That is a fan-base that travels well, even after years of mediocrity on the field.

Didn't Isaiah Rodgers say before the season that his career-long goal was to pick off the other Rodgers? Love to see that. 6:30 am is even better. I come from a family of farmers and my dad used to get up at 5 every morning. I'm finding myself doing the same these days. 7:30 is practically mid-day.

Good idea on the Baileys. That's probably a much better idea than the Jamesons I was planning on. Like an old friend used to say, why ruin two perfectly good drinks?

It'll be 7:30 am here.  The Trophy wife and I are going to the Montana-Idaho late game (on ESPN 2...kickoff at 8:15 pm tonight).  So it's gonna be a late football night and an early football morning. Her company is hosting a big corporate tailgate party, and she has been asked to step in for the CEO who is in Vancouver til next week.  They got her a hotel down there (2 1/2 hour drive home). Both Griz and Idaho are ranked in FCS, should be a good, tough game where the crowd will make a difference.  I'm queuing up for mimosas in the morning with my coffee in the hotel room.
