Oh my

I have no doubt he'll be back up to 220 by summer. But the amount of weight he lost is just weird. Makes you wonder how low his weight got if he's just now cresting 200. Seems logical that it was prescribed. I guess? I figure you'd want a 300 lb tackle to lose weight while recovering from knee surgery, but a 200 lb kid?

I think this is pretty much the first and only injury JJM has ever had, probably took direction very literally. Regardless, just one of many non-stories that continue to float like a feather during Silly Season...like somehow JJ's weight would be a reason to keep Darnold, lmao. His recovery progress was monitored by staff probably almost daily so they knew about the weight loss and directed it. Putting on muscle weight for a professional athlete with the nutrition and workout guidance/programs they have at the facilities in Eagan is cake. Its easily done. Especially for motivated players. Its not like no one in Eagan saw McCarthy for a month and were (gasp) shocked that he lost weight, lol. Drama!

#Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh says #Vikings QB JJ McCarthy is “just like” Justin Herbert:
“They want to be great. It’s not self promoting in a self promoting way, they want to be great for the themselves and their teammates. JJ is a tone setter. He brings the energy, great talent. Every fiber of his being is about helping the team… I can guarantee #Vikings fans that he is up and at it today, attacking the day with enthusiasm unknown to man kind. I love him.”

that 220# kids isnt anymore likely to be naturally 220# than that 300# lineman.

Not sure what that means, but I do emphatically believe that a 300 lb human weighs more than a 200 lb human.

When he showed up on the sidelines looking like Calista Flockhart I was told it's all totally normal, nothing to see here. Hopefully that is the case.

Actually it has been a while since I crossed the 200 line either direction.

Most all pro athletes carry more weight than they likely would otherwise.  They take supplements, extra calories,  etc.  Their weight isnt natural even for a QB as well as the 300# lineman.

I will never forget seeing Matt Birk maybe a year or so after he retired. It was shocking how much smaller he looked. He played at about 300lbs and looked like he'd dropped to around 220.

NFL players are on a training regimen that makes them abnormal and the return to normal is striking sometimes.

This is only half the quote, after the back over 200lbs, was and approaching his 218lb playing weight.

And he carries that weight well. I think it was PF who said when he saw McCarthy live at a preseason game before his injury that he's 'bigger looking in person than I thought' and he is. He's thicker, denser in real life. 218-220 lbs is his ideal NFL weight. As Jimmy mentions, I'm sure his normal, non-professional weight is less than that as it is with 90% of NFL Players.
