National Championship
Welp, as a Notre Dame fan certainly a disappointing end to a great season, but not completely unexpected when accounting for key injuries and the discrepancies in "cost" of the two teams playing in the championship game. Ohio State reportedly spent in excess of $20 million dollars assembling an all-star roster in contrast to Notre Dame's reported $7 million. It was essentially the Oakland Athletics playing the Los Angeles Dodgers. There is no salary cap in college football, some fan bases/boosters are allowed to contribute funds to recruiting "efforts" or payoffs while others aren't. The odds significantly shift in your favor the more you are willing to spend and some programs will pay any cost to win. Ohio State was essentially two or three deep at every position with NFL level talent. I hate Ryan fucking Day, his sharpie penciled beard, and his smug face. But hey, congrats to the Bucknuts..you bought yourself a pretty new ring. College football needs to take a long hard look at the way they conduct business regarding NIL and recruiting. If they just want the same ten or so teams that can spend the most competing for championships every year while reducing the rest of college football to non competitive status...congrats because that's what you've created.
As a Royals fan I get it. The good news for you is ND probably has the largest booster network in CFB. I'm sure very soon, if necessary, that roster will be pricey enough to "compete".

Well that's the problem I was alluding to. Certain programs like Oregon and Ohio State allow fans/boosters to contribute to their "recruiting funds" while other programs do not. The NCAA's biggest problem is there is no salary cap and different rules for different programs. The NCAA needs a commissioner, salary cap, and standardized set of rules for all programs. The NCAA won't do it because they don't want to see teams like Utah in their championships. They want the big money powerhouses like Ohio State, Bama, Georgia, Clemson, etc because it means more money.
I agree, NIL has ruined the game...
ND was scrappy last night, looked like a blow-out was about to happen.

The talent discrepancy between the two rosters was apparent as was, but when you don't have your all American corner, best defensive lineman, starting left tackle, starting right guard, and your best player on offense is playing with a hurt knee...it was going to be an uphill battle as it was all night long for ND. Proud of the way they battled in the second half, but disappointing none the less
I’m a Notre Dame fan. Have been since about 1972. It’s tough to watch your team lose, and it’s very little consolation saying, At least they got there.
At least this season it wasn’t a choice of just 2 or 4 teams, and it seems that it played out well. Ohio State was just better than Notre Dame.
The only thing that was irritating last night was listening to Herbstreit slobber all over his university. Even Chris Fowler was disappointed when Notre Dame tackled an Ohio State player flyer a short gain.
What Ohio State did was amazing and with this being the first year of 12 team playoff has never been done before. In four consecutive games they totally dominated 4 of the best teams in the country in Tenn, Oregon, Texas and ND.
Regarding the money in college sports, hasn't the NBC contract for ND been a huge advantage for them in terms of not only revenue, but also recruitment? With the current contract they getting 50 million a year.

It's not 50, it's in the realm of about 22 million dollars which is what Ohio State spent on their roster this season. But they also lose out on a lot of conference revenue sharing while being an independent, so it's give and take. Notre Dame is not one of these programs that allows fans/boosters to "donate" for recruiting. College football is the wild west right now and changes need to be made.
NIL has turned into a bigger nightmare than anyone could fathom. A team wants to pay Quinn Ewers $10 million to transfer and to play for them, lol. Why come into the NFL Draft? These super wealthy alumni that fund these 'collectives' are the biggest losers on the planet. Just another dick measuring contest so you can brag about your alma mater....why?....you're 50 years old, worth $300 million, flying in on a private jet and still hanging out at campus bars on football trips and yelling at 19-year-old opposing team students in the parking lot of the stadium. The money is all out in the open now what was behind closed doors and you can see how grotesque it is.
Ohio State could have started all backups and probably still have gotten to the CFB Championship Game. That's how loaded they are. $$$$

This article says they get 50 million, plus an additional 17 million from the ACC for a media deal. They can choose to join a conference, but this seems to be a preferred way to create revenue for themselves. I am sure it also helps with additional marketing and recruitment benefits.

Looks like you are correct. They we're getting 22 million per year on the deal that expired before the extension last year. How the new deal impacts recruiting or where that money goes...I have no idea. What I do know is they didn't spend 20+ million on building a super team to win the championship this season and the discrepancy between what they did spend on recruiting in comparison to Ohio State was miniscule
