Lions OC Ben Johnson hired by the Bears.

That didn't take long.

Schottenheimer has been a career assistant coach with 13 different teams in both college and the pros since 1997. There's a reason he hasn't been a HC, but leave it to Jerry Jones, the worst GM in NFL history that can't be fired.

He looks for puppets. He looks for HC's that will just coach the team, has no real say on who is on the roster or 53. Won't challenge Jones as well.

Jerruh should have hired Saleh imo...

I keep pimping Saleh, but he aint getting HC offers. Maybe his ceiling is DC?

I'm missing something here.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I have heard he is full of himself. More about himself than the team. Arrogant. More about his image. Maybe DC is just who he is.

Jerry has too big of an ego to hire someone that will stand up to him. Saleh is not the guy to put up with nonsense. They were interested in him for both HC and DC, I don't blame him for passing on Dallas

You said it - his ceiling is DC. No need to overthink it.

In related news, the Lions have now lost 5 assistants, including both coordinators… pity!

Gone are offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, defensive line coach Terrell Williams, receivers coach Antwaan Randle El, and assistant quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett.

More could eventually go. All will have to be replaced.

That made me LOL Jimmy...

It appears the Vikings will have Brian Flores back as their defensive coordinator for a third season.

However, two Vikings assistants continue to interview for promotions.

Flores, who interviewed with the Jets, Jaguars, and Bears earlier this month, appears set to stay in Minnesota for the 2025 season after all three teams hired head coaches last week. New York, Jacksonville, and Chicago chose their new head coaches within a week of talking to Flores, who interviewed virtually, per NFL rules.

One of Flores’ top assistants, defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Daronte Jones, interviewed with the Jaguars on Monday morning for their defensive coordinator opening, according to NFL Media.

Jones, who has worked four of the past five seasons with the Vikings, also reportedly talked this weekend with Chicago about the coordinator job under new Bears head coach Ben Johnson.

Assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski interviewed virtually with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday for their offensive coordinator opening. Udinski hasn’t turned 30 yet, but he’s already talked with the Bucs and Seahawks about a potential promotion after three years in Minnesota.

Flores’ deal with the Vikings runs through the 2025 season.

O’Connell had been supportive of Flores’ head coaching prospects, saying in a December interview he thought teams would be “really smart” to talk to Flores about a head coach job.

Eberflus to Cowboys as DC.

The Saints are the only head coaching job still open. The front-runners are Mike McCarthy, Kellen Moore and Kliff Kingsbury. The Saints are in salary cap hell for the next couple of years.

Outside of working for Jerruh, this was the least impressive opening imo...ok, maybe the Jets too.

No QB, salary cap hell - thats a rough combo.

I'm seeing all these coaching hires and can't help but think this is the worst group of hirings I've seen...maybe ever. A lot of over the hillers (Carroll), never been's (Schottenheimer), very limited experience (Coen), and guys that I think are just busts (Glenn). Ben Johnson looks good on the surface but I dont get a real "leader of men" feel from him. To me, Vrabel is probably the best hire in this cycle.

All around this looks like a disaster.  Not the most desirable organizations to work for, combined with guys that probably wouldn't get desirable jobs.

I wouldn't be surprised if in 4 years none of these guys are still coaching their teams.

That said, I'm happy to see the Lions gutted.

Kliff is staying in Washington as of like an hour ago.

Saints probably are going to have to just hire someone who won't have much for future options, just to run the tank job as they rebuild their cap. Can't imagine McCarthy would take that job. I think he'd be much better off taking a year off and going for something next year.

Yah, Vrabel back to NE feels just right...

Brought back a good guy to run the offense and mentor Maye too.

I think Glenn has a chance, there are still some really good D pieces there that he should resonate with.

Rogers will be an interesting saga to watch unfold.

That's exactly what McCarthy did. He has announced that he will not coach in 2025 but will instead focus on the 2026 hiring cycle.

The Saints kept kicking the can down the road with Brees' contract and its caught up with them. If I were a first time head coach, I would stay clear away from NO. It is a 3 year and fired situation.

Lmao what could possibly go wrong here..

Also, did anybody catch the Liam Coen press conference today? I'll stand on my statement that this is the worst NFL head coach hiring carousel I've ever seen. Just brutal

I saw people on the NFL subreddit (probably Saints fans), and they were talking about it like, the Saints would be giving the coach assurances that this would be like a 5 year commitment, 2 years to blow it up and then start a 3 year rebuild.  I just don’t see how that can be a given.  Very few teams can commit to a long term vision, after 3 years of sucking, whether it’s their fault or not, that coach is probably getting fired because everything will be stale, the locker room vibes are going to suck because all the players know it’s just a paycheck at that point.  They’ll be ready for a breath of fresh air and bring in a new coach.

If I was a coach that was getting multiple HC interviews, I’d probably just wait it out.  Maybe I’d consider doing it a year at a time.  Something like $20M a year, but only for a year.  Keep my options open.  Maybe if everyone saw me overperforming that job, it would open up other options?  I just don’t know how you would commit to like a 4 year deal or something.

For whatever reason, the Jacksonville job isn't that enticing....and Coen is a nutbag. He's brutal behind the mic. And although the national media is slobbering all over Aaron Glenn, I don't think its a homerun hire at all. Remains to be seen.

There is a lot of dysfunction in Jacksonville and Khan is kind of bizarre, I think that is why it is not an attractive job. I think Baalke was a deterrent as well.
