Week 1 of college football is tough to make assessments about considering the tomato cans the top programs play right out of the gate.

Jayden Maiava, QB, USC

Scouts aren’t currently talking about Maiava as a Round 1 guy, but competent quarterbacks always get pushed up the board. And Maiava is a smooth passer who puts a premium on being decisive and accurate — qualities that will translate to any level of football.

Maiava has been lights out through three games this season: 80.7 percent completions, 896 yards and 11 total touchdowns (10 passing, one rushing). We will see if he can play at a high level against Big Ten competition, with Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State and Indiana waiting on the schedule.

Dane has him as a senior who could move up to the top half of the draft. I’ve followed Dane for 15 or so years. So, when he speaks I tend to take notice, like it’s coming from a burning bush.

Biggest test will be in about a month vs Ohio State. Watch this guy for about 10 minutes and you will understand why KO would pound the table for him. Waiting to see how he fares vs big 10 competition before officially declaring him my man crush.

Watched some Maiava. Big guy, 6-4, 230. Nice arm talent, no mechanical issues that I noticed, accuracy was good, decent athlete. Wasn't good against Nebraska last year, so we'll see what he does in bigger games this year. He's off to a great start. McShay's a fan.

Tan Darold.

He’s really got to step up in the big games this year. He’s athletic enough to buy time in the pocket and gain some yards if flushed. I’d equate his athleticism to Darnold until I see more.

A top ranked prospect IE first round pick potential. Hell even a drafted prospect. The ones you mentioned that were drafted all well before my time.
