Oh how I miss Maui, I gotta get back there again for my spiritual and emotional well being...

We had an estate on an island in Flathead Lake listed a few years ago.
Kind of a starter home for French royalty...it was listed at $85 MILLION.
We would have bought it, but it didn't have a winter road...LOL

Indeed. Let's just say I haven't needed to go anywhere on vacation since moving here 7 years ago...
Hop a flight -- lots of Aloha waiting

I remember looking at that place, it was awesome.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?
What I've never understood about these mega million dollar homes is the tiny specs of land they build them on. If you can really afford to build a home like that then buy up an appropriately sized property to put it on.

Yup
privacy is as important to me as amenities and sq footage...But I get it on places like Maui where you're on a small island and only so much beach/ocean view land is suitable for bldg anything.

fuck Maui... if I can justify a 25 million dollar home... I think I can justify buying my own island!

Same. It was not completed if I recall correctly. But fun to look at.
Okay, there are/were two in that eight-figure range on Flathead lake. We had 'em mixed up.
The one I was referring to was on 24-acre Shelter Island. It was listed for $85 million around 2011 and was sold to a California guy. He paid less than the listing price, and in 2014 re-listed it at $59.5 million (such a bargain!). And then he had the balls to ask the county for a reduction in his annual property taxes. Said the state over-valued the improvements because it was built in Montana, thereby reducing the value. I don't think that flew very far.
The one that was not completed was built on 350 acre Cromwell Island. It was built by the heir to the Lee jeans fortune...Bob Lee. He had armed guards on his shore I remember that scrambled the boats anytime another boat approached. He bought the island in the late '80's, and in the 20-teens, he was still working on the 45,000 square foot main house. He died in 2016, before the interior could be finished. I heard that there's an underground shooting range and a bunch of other non-visible features. So it's on the market right now for a cool $72 million.

Ah yes, that was the one I was thinking of. Looking a dream houses is a hobby for my better half. That one was very interesting as you stated. The owner bit off way more than he could handle and now it sits as an unfinished monstrosity. A beautiful location, but not sure anyone is going to jump into another man's dream and finish it.
You know…even if I had Kirk Cousins money. I’m not sure I’d want anything like that.
Give me a private lake and farmland and we’ll call it good.
