Just some tidbits rolling around in my mind

  • Kudos to the offensive staff for adjusting the run game and start going vertical. Packers were camping on the wide zone and couldn't adjust to our adjustment.

  • Jefferson is one strong mofo. That cheap shot to the back of his head early had no effect. And then on his short TD reception, he turned that corner and had no business getting into the endzone. But he shook off the one defender and lunged for 3 yards in the air. Reminds me of the play a few years back where he shook off a LB and dove for the endzone. Sticky called it back then, Jefferson is very strong for a guy his size.

  • Turner. That 1st step is sooo quick. I remember watching Verse do nothing for the Rams as SF dominated their game. He may have cost a bit in the draft and taken a couple years, but wow. That one sack on Love was just crazy fast.

  • GB's kicker should have been called for attempting to trip Price on that huge return. He missed, but swung his leg out to trip him.

  • So glad Harry is back. I think Jackson was responsible for 2 huge passing plays, including the long Watson catch and run. Hopefully Jakobe and Jacob Thomas get back soon and we don't have to endure any more Theo.

  • Wasn't overly impressed by the O-line being aggressive. On the TD by Jones, I thought Darrisaw was rather casual and almost ruined the play. D Jackson looks like the real deal, but a couple of plays Darrisaw looked to casual. Normally he dominates and makes it look easy, but he needs to put a bit more effort in.

  • At this point in his career, I suppose Wentz is who he is. He isn't going to fix his mechanics/accuracy. Rumors around that he doesn't take to coaching, but I wonder if his knee injury changed anything. He was in the MVP conversation that year. I know he was raw coming out and I didn't really pay attention to him in Philly, but he must have been doing something better before the knee. Either that or the coaching just hid his flaws better.

Will add, D Jackson had a big pancake to spring Mason for his long run wide left.

Also should add that Rodriguez made some big plays in the middle as well.

Was it me or did it seem that LDR and Redmond played a TON of snaps? Need to get the Big Citrus and Banks more PT incrementally each week for some relief. Hell, Elijah Williams was an inactive for the game.

Shall we call the TID edge experiment over? Seems to be a good 3-4 end. Not sure he has the skills for edge.

I am still stunned, once it was 22-10, I was starting to think it was going to be a lawn day 😀

Some of the thoughts I have as well -

  • I was really surprised that Addison and Jennings did not have any catches, only 3 targets only, Addision was wide open for what should have been a big gain, surprised only 1 target for Jennings, but 4 for Oliver. I think they will make a conscious effort to get him the ball next week.

  • Rodriguez really picked up the DL and made some huge plays, really happy for him.

  • Van Ginkel by far continues to be the best move Kwesi ever made, especially for what we signed him for, our best player on defense, we got so lucky.

  • Like the way Mason ran, but wish we had a burner back there, we miss that dimension to our game that we had with Cook, AD, Smith.

  • Huge shot out to Myles Price, gave us a huge spark, he just continues to make plays.

Well we saw Kyler's first moon ball, which you cannot throw in that situation. We still haven't seen the hospital balls from him yet, but they sure will come. All I heard was how great he was at making plays with his feet and that would be the difference. Well, we sure saw how that worked out. Wish him well with recovery, but he got an absolute F for his first game as a Viking.

Just a few thoughts;

  • Just an abysmal first half. The Kyler Murray MVP tour is off to a rousing start. The defense turned the tide and the offense finally caught fire after Wentz stepped in and got adjusted.

  • Anybody still pissed about trading Greenard? Dallas Turner is going to be a problem for a lot of teams this year.

  • I said this offseason that I thought the team was better off going with McCarthy and Wentz as the quarterbacks. Wentz is exactly what we've seen from quarterbacks who can succeed in the KOC offense. He fits that Cousins/Darnold mold and even last year, although he was getting killed behind a sieve offensive line, he played pretty well. Not saying things will continue, but he's a veteran who is smart, can make the throws, and for a big guy is athletic enough to move around.

  • Heard an interesting stat this morning. As of the conclusion of the Seattle game last year (Brosmer), the Vikings ranked 31st in rushing attempts under OConnell. After that game and through the Packers game yesterday, the Vikings have ranked 2nd in rushing attempts, only behind Baltimore. So maybe, just maybe....the whisperer is starting to figure out that running the ball in a balanced offense is more condusive to winning football games.

  • Pierre was all over yesterday.

  • Big Citrus with the 4th down stuff was a thing of beauty. Looking forward to Banks finally rounding into form

Huge statement game this week against a well coached Bears team in their building

Will add D Jackson completely botched his assignment leading to a sack. Like BADLY. No defensive shift. He just decided to double team Darrisaws guy and left the blitzer wide open. I think that blitzer had back to back sacks. The 1st one is the one where Jackson just straight up f'ed up. Wide open run to Wentz

Disagree that Wentz is a QB who can succeed in any offense. Great veteran backup, can come in and function. But he is not good with his accuracy. That won't sustain drives if he is the starter.

Dude the defender intentionally lowered his shoulder into his head when he was already going down. How is that his fault?

GB was headhunting this game. Trying to take out our 2 most important positions with Murray and Jefferson. Both got penalties.

F the Packers!

The problem with trading Greenard has less to do with Turner (since he would be here with or without Greenard) and more to do with depth.

What happens if Turner or Van Ginkel go down for several games with an injury?  Do we have someone that can adequately plug and play into that spot or are we going to be putting an awkward fit into that spot and hoping for some Flores magic?  Last year both Van Ginkel and Greenard went down for significant games and it wasn’t an issue because Turner just swapped in and the train kept rolling.

I’m not super worried about it, because I do think we’ve got some guys that could swap in and maybe hold the fort down, but if we were serious about contending this year, we could have just burned the cash and kept both of them.

I think we are going to have offensive issues through probably the 1st 8 games. Defense is going to probably HAVE to hold teams under 20 week in and week out. Yes we scored 39 this week, but it was mostly on the defenses back and a little luck. Can't count on that week to week.

Run game is ok, but I believe it will get better as the season moves on.

Turner is a stud. Who needs Myles Garrett? Pshaw!

This defense ABSOLUTELY needs Smith and Cashman. A bad injury to either of those two and the defense falls down several ranks.

Citrus will continue to get better, but overall I felt like the DL played well. Redmond seems to be continuing his improvements from last year. They are slow walking Banks, and that is ok. LDR was in the backfield a lot.

Ivan Pace sighting! It's good to see him active again. May need him as it seems Eric Wilson got burned a few times. I know Pace can't cover bread with mayonnaise so hopefully Golday comes along soon.

Addison and Jennings blanked? That obviously won't continue.

Chicago is much better than Green Bay. Their defense probably isn't, but they can hang 50 on you quickly. Williams is slippery, gotta grab him and get him down.

I know Wince looked good at times yesterday, but think back to last year. When teams prepare for him and not Murray it's a different game. He becomes a statue with accuracy issues. He seems to be a bit Nick Mullenish with the Yolo balls some times. He will have us ripping out our hair by the end of the Bears game.

F the Packers!

HIs MVP, SB MVP, HOFer Tour is off to a tremendous start. Call it what you want. Terrible mechanics, but it's fine since it is Murray and not JJM. We will see, but I just don't see it at all now.

I fully expect Wentz to play Sunday (and agree with Medaille) it would be some form of negligence to put K1 in this week.

But if I have to watch Wentz more than 2 weeks in a row? That would be tough for me to take.

God bless him for a fill-in, but starter? Ugh no

And how could i forget DeeJay Dallas (isn't even listed on the roster) drawing oohs with that block that sprung Price.

You can hear it in the announcers booth.

Damn dude step back off the cliff. I know you have 25K on the Vikings winning the SB and Murrays start didn't inspire confidence but it was 11 plays. Fries can't block a stationary garbage bin and Murray was under fire immediately. Brandels snapping balls too early and almost falling down.

I loved seeing his speed running to the outside and around the defender.

OL was trash and he had 2 seconds on his first int. Love threw a very similar ball the next series and was lucky it got out of bounds.

I have zero issues with us rolling with Murray from here on. Wentz and his 150 yards a game and statue mobility with Fries and Brandel in front of him is going to get him killed. AS SOON as he was the QB GB just pinned their ears back and mobbed the line and got to him over and over. ZERO threat of a run so that kills so many offensive options.

I agree. It’s 2026 and a serious team shouldn’t have Wentz at the helm. And yet of everything we’ve seen from our 4 QBs, he’s been the best. So here we are
