The 9ers won 12 games last year without the services of Fred Warner, Bosa, Kittle and Purdy. Shanahan might be the best coach in the NFL...Plus give some props to Raheem Morris. That dude had that defense humming.

Here's the funny thing and why today's 'media' sucks so bad....front page of the sports section of the Los Angeles Times Bill Plaschke says the Rams will go undefeated and win the Superbowl....media has said the Rams are a 'super team', blah blah blah. Gone way overboard with the hyperbole. Well they got waxed last night. Now online fans are all over the Rams, hammering them. Lol, yet the Rams never said they were going undefeated! McVay said they had to work to do, very humble. But now the media gets to rail against a narrative THEY created. Its a joke.

McVay isn't perfect. This gamble about when to leave for Australia looks wrong. And the Rams aren't a 'super team'. That doesn't mean come the end of the year they won't be a ton better, maybe even be a top seed in the NFC. But this hyperbole by the sports media is completely unhinged, they make news by being the news now. And oh yeah, Shanahan is a HELL of a HC by the way and kudos to the 49ers. The Rams got bullied last night....also, Raheem Morris is incredibly underrated as a D coordinator. I'd love for the Vikings to evolve into the incredibly solid and consistent organization that is San Francisco.

Should serve as a cautionary tale for all of us. Anything can happen on opening day in a divisional matchup. Myles Garrett had zero everything, zero tackles, zero sacks, zero pressures, zero impact. Solid game plan by the 49ers. Sucks for the Rams because they not only were embarrassed on a world stage, they burned a home game.

In an opener about 20 years ago, the Bills humiliated the Super Bowl favorite Patriots 31-0. Patriots still went on to win the Super Bowl.

Trent Williams just showed what a HOF LT can do against one of the best pass rushers in the game. The dude was a flat out beast against Garrett.

Deebo Samuel just fits in a 49ers uniform and in that offense. Glad I snagged him for my fantasy teams late in the draft. 😜. Mike Evans may be the perfect compliment for them. George Kittle is an animal and just a phenomenal blocker as well as a Juszczyk. The offense won't have to rely as heavily on McCaffrey this season as they did a year ago.

Agreed with others on Kyle Shannahan and I believe he is one of the top 2 coaches in the NFL. Oh and I'm a big Raheem Morris fan, even back at his days at my alma mater.

It's Week 1... crazy stuff happens every year like this. Upsets, teams people thought suck start hot and fizzle, some teams start out slow and make deep playoff runs, etc. 49ers probably weren't getting enough credit with their coaching staff and a healthy Brock Purdy. Also, these international games can be a crap shoot. You're out of your normal routine and rhythm, have to deal with travel fatigue, different time zones, etc.

Rams will be good this season, but they didn't look like it last night. 49ers will be tough if they can keep their team healthy (which has been their biggest issue in recent years).

Rams looked like a team that just got off a 14 hour flight from LA to Australia and was in a totally difference time zone and world, which for some bizarre reason is essentially what they did. Teams have been traveling overseas for years now and it has been shown that it is better to get in early as the 49ers did. Just incredibly poor strategy by whoever made that decision and I think that weighed heavily on why they all looked like they were in a fog most of the night.

Speaking of overseas games, think it is really unfair in a divisional rivalry like that that one team loses their home game in the 1 and 1 series.

49ers looked great .. Pats, Seattle and Rams were playing a preseason game

Teams do the Europe trip on short schedules and make it work but this was 13 hours in the other direction, crossing the date line to boot.

So I guess lesson learned for the Rams. Despite the preseason doom and gloom about the Niners they have a solid QB with good weapons and Bosa and Warner back from injuries on D.

For all the Rams talent, Stafford is old and doesn't have a ton of weapons to distribute to. They're gonna need way better performances on D than last night. They looked energized for about a half then the jet lag ate them I guess. They should hope that's all it was.

The boldest b.s. I heard afterwards was that McVay flew in and out fast knowing it would make them lose, but it won't disrupt the rest of the year due to spending a few more days down under. Oh sure, where can I go to learn to master this kinda 4 dimensional underwater chess theory!?

And as others said, it's game 1. For me as a bettor this and week 18 tend to be the hardest to handicap. We don't know what the teams are really gonna look like and everyone is 0-0, even the worst teams have hope and play hard on that opener.

This is the year of zero excuses in Vikingland. I see some early brush clearing already....nope. Win baby. If you can win on the road against Chicago on MNF with a rookie starting his first game, you can certainly win at home against Green Bay with a vet like Kyler. Let's expect more.

Plaschke is a calculated clown who knows that by propping the Rams up he’ll get to tear them down. A sad, wet blanket of a journalist.

I knew in my bones that -4 LAR was too much but the game being in Australia introduced way too many wildcards to make anything a good bet I thought. But Kyle Shanny owns McVay so I wasn’t shocked by the result. Rams offense looked bad.

Everything posted about wk1 is true imo...It's a weird thing for teams to overcome - and hopefully walk away from unscathed and 1/0.

That said, I am looking forward to going back to USB for my first game in 2 years and we should win this one.

I believe I read that the 49ers were there 7 days prior and LA just landed the day earlier. That is a long flight to do that. Not sure what McVay was thinking.

Agreed with everyone. Can’t put too much stock in anything week one, especially with the added variable of it being in Australia.

That said, I think the 49ers plan was much more sound, especially given how important that game will be for divisional and playoff implications.

I don’t really like this idea of putting divisional games in week 1. It’s the new preseason and divisional games shouldn’t be a crapshoot. That said, I think it made for a good TV draw to start the season, even though I didn’t watch it live due to Netflix.

And we used to ridicule and question their objectivity when they got things so wrong and acted so recklessly. Now, this is just sports so not really a big deal. But the media figured out that they can make money off of emotions so them being catastrophically wrong isn't a concern because the emotional swing is what they feed off of. It isn't "Holy shit we were wrong". It is "Can you believe what just happened? Tune in next week to see what crazy thing happens. Oh and read/watch all of our breakdowns throughout the week as to how this happened".....

It's just more hyper-emotion sales.

Yep. And what's changed now is they get engagement for both being wrong and right, people/fans can directly respond to a tweet or Instagram post and have their say. That's why its all contrived and disingenuous, the content provider wins regardless, so the more outlandish, the more engagement. And being wrong and negative moves the needle way more than right and thoughtful.
