Pretty good mini doc about the food of Minneapolis. Don't watch on an empty stomach. We tried to get into Matts for a Jucy Lucy when we were there for the Bengals game, but it was too crowded.

You'd never know it being the land of Lutefisk, Casseroles and Wild Rice...But the authentic Hispanic, Vietnamese, Laotian and Indian is about as good as Ive had anywhere in the states (barring Tx).

We were in West St Paul yesterday for some Cinco celebrations:

1). It was great to see the celebrations and people outside/care free after being so fearful the last 4 mos

2). The authentic Mex (not tx/mex) was fabulous. Still not a fan of cactus salsa though

Casseroles? Excuse me, any true Minnesotan calls that HOT DISH.

I get it, Ive been to more church basement dinners and luncheons than I can remember!

I've heard casserole plenty as the decades role by...We never used hot dish much in our household now that I think about it.

If you ever make it to Austin TX there is a place called El Milagro. They mostly make tortillas and chips. The sell a cactus salad/salsa which is amazing.

Out here in New Mexico, we've got the famous "Hatch Chilis". They put these on everything from mexican food to hamburgers.

Such a great, spiritual place. For me parts of New Mexico had a Sedona vibe.

A friend of mine when I was living in Vail, Colorado (decades ago) was from Hatch, NM. He introduced me to roasted Hatch chilies in the early 90s. He and his wife ended up in Taos owning a B&B Inn. We were there one April (off-season) weekend when he had some "celebrity guest" coming in for the weekend from LA, via Albuquerque and a 3 hour limo ride. We were having dinner in the dining room adjacent to the checkin/lobby and his guests checked in. I asked who it was and he said "some actor in some TV show...Remington Steele"...I said "Pierce Brosnan?" "yeah"

Costco now carries a large jar of hatch chilies (roasted) with a recipe on the back for green chili stew that I tried...the trophy wife was skeptical...but it was awesome.

Love to hear this. So is there a large Hispanic community in the area? You wouldn't know it from the appalling breakfast burrito I got at Randle's on Nicolett several years ago. lol. As @FourCornersViking says, the New Mexico/Colorado area is known for its hatch chile based, green chile drenched breakfast burritos. I guess we shouldn't take it for granted.

I'm not typically a fan of northern European foods, but I do miss "church basement food." Hysterical you say that because we all know exactly what that means.

So Minneapolis (and St. Paul too) has an elite food scene. We have people from all over. DC, NY, LA, CHI who frequently talk about how good the food is here any how it consistently punches WAY above its weight and that the pricing and availability here is amazing. have to agree, we do have some great food here in Mineapolis

Is this thing STILL on?
