Overheard at Phone Store
Son and I were getting him a new phone when we overheard the conversation between the salesperson and his customer one table over from ours. Customer was a Bears fan. Conversation involved fairly knowledgeable comments about the Bears, sports bars and the fact that the Packers have "like 7 WR2s." So clearly they pay SOME attention.
Then this: "I think the Vikings are tanking. They'll finish last in the North. They peaked last year with Darnold's fluke season and JJ McCarthy is not the answer." Sales guy agreed.
So there you have it, folks. Word on the street is that the Vikings are, um, TANKING.

Who listens to a Bears fan and really agrees with them? The Salesman was probably just looking to keep his customer happy and make a sale. Probably laughed with his co-workers after the sale about the dumb Bears fan he just sold a bunch of additional accessories to that he didn't need!

Overhearing fans out in the wild has always been hilarious....you hear a lot of stuff at the gates at airports or on the flights. And the confidence that so many have in their ignorance is special. Mostly being complete homers for their teams or just operating on very little updated information (casual fans). I used to dress very casual when I flew for business so many times I had a Viking's hat/athletic wear on or something like that and people will engage you at an airport bar/restaurant or waiting for your flight. Always interesting! The only thing that beats it is going to an opposing team's stadium to watch a game and listen to the drunk casuals, lol.
(unless its GB) I begrudge few fan bases some sense of optimism in July...Lord knows most of em will get their souls crushed by Xmas.

Knowledgeable? Maybe aware, but no intelligent fan would say a team is tanking when they have their rookie QB in house. Their opinion about JJM not being the answer is a legit opinion, very likely wrong, but a legit opinion. But to say we are tanking? Just the opposite. We loaded up for a run, the windows are open, the tank is full and the gas pedal is mashed to the floor.
