Bernie Sanders drops out of the 2020 race, clearing Joe Biden's path to the Democratic nomination
(CNN)Sen. Bernie Sanders ended his presidential campaign on Wednesday, clearing Joe Biden's path to the Democratic nomination and a showdown with President Donald Trump in November.

Sanders made the announcement in a call with his campaign staff, his campaign said.

Sanders' exit caps a stunning reversal of fortune following a strong performance in the first three states that voted in February. The nomination appeared his for the taking until, on the last day of February, Biden surged to a blowout victory in South Carolina that set off a consolidation of moderate voters around the former vice president. The contest ends now as the country continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, which halted in-person campaigning for both Sanders and Biden and has led many states to delay their primary elections

The Vermont independent is scheduled to address supporters at 11:45 a.m. via livestream.
Sanders' exit comes after a string of losses to Biden in the primary election.
The intensifying coronavirus pandemic also meant he could no longer hold the large rallies that came to define his grassroots movement, though he often pointed to the problems many Americans had getting tested and treated for the virus as a way to push his signature Medicare for All proposal.
Fiercely unapologetic, the Vermont independent senator's call for economic justice, universal health care and an end to the "billionaire class" was the loud refrain for two presidential campaigns that pulled the Democratic party to the left.
Ultimately, it fell short. For the second consecutive election, the self-described Democratic socialist was the runner up: finishing behind Hillary Clinton in 2016 and the former vice president this year
He entered the 2020 campaign with high name recognition, experience and an army of supporters – some pejoratively known as "Bernie Bros" – that collectively propelled him into front-runner status after the first three states.
But his momentum began to fizzle after the South Carolina primary Feb. 29 when black voters backed Biden in large numbers, foreshadowing the struggles Sanders would have with a key Democratic constituency going forward into Super Tuesday three days later

he should work with Joe on policies that Bernie voters want. Same for Romney. Same for Warren. Same for Yang.

its a time for ideas and a coalition. bring Americans together. focus on the things we can do collectively. there are battles to win united. not fighting over the scraps as the ship sinks

He could probably be Biden's VP and then he would be the defacto pres. Biden's just a figurehead. Scratch that. What was I thinking. All the nominees dropped out to ensure Sanders wouldn't be president. Why would they want him anywhere near making policies, especially with Biden going senile?

I doubt the the Biden Dems want Bernies policies any more than any type of Republican would.

I am voting for Bernie in the NY primary.

I have nieces and nephews that were Bernie supporters. They won’t vote for Biden.

I assume they won’t vote.

Well the democratic ship is clearly sinking. They really need to split into two separate parties: socialists and moderates. America's not sinking though. I do think politicians need to work on items that all Americans care about, but the democrats are clearly in the lane of "opposite of Trump" on everything, so they don't really have much of a voice or leadership right now, their main message is just victimhood.
