OT: My sons football coach asked me to help coach the O line... - Vanguard83 - 07-28-2017

kinda came outta the blue the other night at Hell week my sons coach called me over.
we have about 70 kids at the Jr. Pee Wee level, that will break into three teams.
Division 1 coach will pick his team, and the rest will be divided between two other teams.

I ran the clocks for our home games, but at our away games I was the one yelling from the stands "make a hole boys", "plow the road" and "PANCAKES!" I got to know all the O Line guys, real well (my boy Plays G and DE) and they could always hear me cheering for them. I've coached defense before but never O Line, but honestly, how much can I screw up a twelve year old?
they all know I cheer for the guys on the line, and they love hearing THEIR names coming from the stands...

so I gladly accepted, my 51 year old fat ass is out there this week (Hell week) It'll do me some good to move around a bit more,
but As a high school teacher I don't get to be around this age group much, but these are some great young gentlemen.

one kid came up tonight to thank me for showing him how to improve his get off and shook my hand. Really made my day.
it will be a long season, and I'm an old guy, but the guy in the Vikings hat coaching up the Orangecrest Wolves Has found the fountain of middle age.

Thought I'd share with my friends here.....I'll give some updates throughout the season.

Skol Vikings
Go Wolves

That's great... I couldn't watch my mouth enough to do that.  It was easy when I was Cub Master as those little shits were just so young.  But 12 year olds are almost teenagers... I'm sure it would be nothing the kids haven't heard already but one parent overhears something they'd run straight to the school board or where ever tattlers go now a days.   Good luck and enjoy yourself and help spread the love of the game.

I teach high school, so my language has been kept in check for 30 years now, but yeah
the area the team pulls from there are "entitlement" issues.  I'm sure at some point I'll probably get called out on something.

Smile and wave boys, smile and wave

You need a seal here...and a seal here...and you run the ball in the alley...

Lombardi used to do an 8 hour session on their signature play...

Nice.  Have fun.  And if I can coach o-line, I am sure you will be just fine.  Feet and hands.  Low man wins.  That is about all I know.

And yes, the challenge will be getting some of the kids to put in the effort.  My success story is taking a overweight kid that had never played before 7th grade and turning him into a HS starter on the varsity O-line.  Kid could barely walk through practice, now he is a weight room fiend and great kid.  So don't give up on the fat kid.

I can imagine a coaching journal filled with some knowledge and fun. Some jokes and lessons as well. That is so cool that one kid shook your hand. You are making a difference my friend.
