Tarkenton passed...away...fake news abounding - Montana Tom - 02-25-2026

I saw something on social media this morning about the death of Fran Tarkenton....at 86 years old.
I googled it and found a website post of the same thing.
After only a bit of further exploration, there was nothing.

This kind of click bait just pisses me off.

On the plus side, as I was writing this post, I thought of a number of different double entendres about Fran's last pass, Tark passes over the rainbow and many other unserious headlines.

I'm glad to have been able to have seen him play in purple in my life.

Tom, there's so much you can't trust on social media/Internet. Its insane. People and bots completely posting lies for engagement they can monetize. AI generated garbage as well. Supposedly 65% of reviews on Yelp, etc. are either false or made-up.

It is really sad how many celebrities have to come out and say no I am not dead. So disgusting. Glad Fran is doing well. I saw a post about him talking about the passing of Robert Duvall.

I was not really aware of the Vikings when the franchise started.  I have no recollection of Norm Van Brocklin...but Bud Grant was another story altogether.  When Grant became head coach, I was in Little League football in small farm town Minnesota and talking with a teammate about how weird the helmets looked like from the top...with the horns nearly meeting on the top of the helmet.  It was at that stage I became a fan, Tark the scramblin' man, steel eyed Grant and later my all-time favorite Viking Joe Kapp.

Yeah - Saw the same thing on Facebook, but I've learned to disregard MOST Vikings related news on social media.
