Tua era in SoBe over? - purplefaithful - 12-16-2025

Before the score became 28-3 into the 4th quarter, Tua's boxscore looked atrocious. Horrible. I can tell you the fans down here in SoFlo are DONE with Tua. Zach Wilson might get a few games to show he can be involved in a QB comp next year, but expect Miami to draft or sign another QB for '26. I think Tua's salary cap hit for 2026 makes it next to impossible to not involve him in at least a competition, they won't cut him outright. The dead cap number is something horrific if I remember correctly.

For the upcoming 2026 league year (next year from late 2025), Tua Tagovailoa's dead cap hit for the Dolphins depends heavily on when they cut him; it's a massive figure like $99M+ if cut pre-June 1st, but can be reduced by using a Post-June 1st designation, potentially dropping it to around $54-$55 million in 2026, with the rest hitting in 2027, making it a huge, but manageable, cap burden to move on

Massive Hit (Pre-June 1st Cut): If the Dolphins cut him before June 1st, 2026, they face a nearly $100 million dead cap hit, which is financially crippling.

Post-June 1st Designation: By designating him as a Post-June 1st cut, they can spread the dead cap: roughly $55.4 million in 2026 and the rest in 2027, which is still huge but a more realistic path to move on.

Contract "Out": The first realistic time they can cut him with significantly less dead money is before the 2027 season, where the dead cap drops to around $34.8 million, as noted by Spotrac.com and The Palm Beach Post.

In short: For 2026, if they make a move, expect a $50M+ dead cap, but using the Post-June 1st rule makes it feasible by splitting the hit over 2026 and 2027, according to Yahoo Sports and The New York Times.

7th rounder time...

They gotta be hoping Moore declares. Not a strong QB class at first glance

Nope. And count me in as a person that doesn't love Fernando Mendoza.

Moore really needs another year. Though he will get drafted high no matter what if he declares. Him and Mendoza are at the top. I wonder if the rams don't trade up for a QB? If Mendoza goes to the Rams I know who I would trade up for in my dynasty league)). Right now other than those two, Meh. 2027 should be interesting.

SO he should be good then.

This whole Miami situation is a stark reminder why we (desperately) need JJM to pan-out at a franchise level.

No pressure kid (or coach)...
