Sources: The #Bengals and All-Pro DE Trey Hendrickson made attempts over the past few days to reengage on a new deal, but talks failed to gain serious momentum.
Both sides are dug in and frustrated. I’m told there are key differences between the two sides, and there’s currently no clear path to a resolution.

Just read an article about the three worst contract decisions of the off season. Two of them were the Bengals. I think both Stewart ahd Hendrickson should continue holding out. At least until September 22nd.

This seems like extremely poor communication by the Bengals. You would have never discussed this with the agents during the process with a change you were planning to do? The issue is you set a precedence and now you want to renege on the precedence. In that case I think Stewart is fine with his stance, even if its different from other league standards. Even though I am not sure I would be creating such an issue this early in his career, unless he really doesn't want to play for the Bengals.

I don’t really understand why the NFL allows any negotiation for rookie deals. Have the NFLPA, negotiate the owners over the verbiage for the contracts, and let that be the contract. Like why are there small loopholes where the league can try to void the contract?

After signing a one year extension in 2023 for an additional $21M, Trey had this to say. I guess he's changed his mind.
“They gave me a tremendous opportunity two years ago, there was a lot of question marks around my name. They believed in me,” he said. “And I still have the same desire to prove them right in the way they’ve invested in me. And that’s not something I take lightly. I have a tremendous amount of respect for them. And the way they handle things, the organization, the way they care about people, like I said earlier, so just staying in the building personally for me is important.”

TJ Watt is the same age as Hendrickson and just got $41 mil a year after Hendricksen got more sacks over the last 2 years. Unless the Bengals are talking at least $35 mil a year, I'd go home too.
