He’s smarter than you… - Waterboy - 04-05-2025 For the crew whining about their short-term pain. Maybe see the bigger pic. I think she hits on many of the biggest points. i don’t think she adds enough about the strategic importance of repatriating industries like pharmaceuticals. chips, energy, and steel critical to our future against threats from our adversaries. Still, for the lazier people wanting to throw Trump under the bus for all of life’s ills, this is a pretty effective piece in showing the outline of the plan. It’s sort of the Greenland for dummies book necessary for the why the hell is Trump obsessed with Greenland, and then you show them a picture of the globe taken with the North Pole as the center of the photo. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/heres-what-trump-really-up-high-stakes-tariff-gambit RE: He’s smarter than you… - purplefaithful - 04-05-2025 I dont think the strategy will result in a bunch of new mfgring here in the US sadly. If it does happen, it'll be piecemeal and it will take years and years for most industries. Auto industry is a perfect example of this. There is still a huge hang-over from Pandemic, supply chains arent fully recovered. Thats a big hinderance for anything to happen quickly. Might this tariff war result in a more reasonable playing field with some big players? Able to pay down some debt? Maybe...The stakes are high. It's now about our kids futures, more than ours. Time will tell if the pain is worth the gain. If it does happen, it'll be piecemeal and it will take years and years for most industries. They’re already reopening a large plant in Belvidere IL where jeeps are made and have started construction on a plant down near Nashville where we’re visiting this week. The so called tax cuts for the wealthy are meant to offset the large cost of labor in the US to bring jobs home. Repatriating these key industries may drive some prices higher, but it’s worth the pain in so many different ways and most ideas have a good dose of past liberal beliefs at their core. It’s why labor has dramatically shifted towards the Republicans. RE: He’s smarter than you… - purplefaithful - 04-05-2025 The Belvidere re-opening isnt till 2027 (if it remains on-time). That'll be a 4 year time-frame and thats a re-open vs a new factory. New factory timing? I'll bet 2030+ on average or more... I have my doubts about the # of mfgring jobs that'll come back to the US. This strategy may result in some additional favorable terms for trading is my guess. Like I said b4, time will tell if the pain is worth the gain - or not. RE: He’s smarter than you… - BigAl99 - 04-05-2025 Up in Detroit this week, Stellantis just announced a temp closures shutdown of it's Windsor and Toluca plants and temporarily laying 900 workers at Warren and Sterling Heights plant, because use they don't have enough engines. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2025/04/05/stellantis-idles-windsor-plant-workers-in-warren-sterling-heights-among-those-affected/ https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/chrysler/2025/04/03/warren-truck-suv-production-will-pause-for-weeks-stellantis-says/82796381007/ RE: He’s smarter than you… - Zanary - 04-05-2025 I can't imagine anything more legit than a multi-bankrupted, fraudulent "university" founding, charity misusing, complete BS spewing, sexual assaulter spouting yet more drivel while the "news network" that already got hugely fined for admitting to lying for the orange smear continues to carry his water. (this is sarcasm) RE: He’s smarter than you… - Waterboy - 04-05-2025 (04-05-2025, 09:54 AM)purplefaithful Wrote: The Belvidere re-opening isnt till 2027 (if it remains on-time). You’re right that there is lead time to these things, but cutting regulations gets you there earlier and those jobs weren’t coming back at all without a pro business climate. Something needed to be done, is it the right action? I dont know, time will tell, but i do know that inaction wasnt doing anything to try and bring back manufacturing jobs to the US. If our country's education scores tell me anything its that we are going to be needing a lot of blue collar jobs going forward to be paying on that mountain of debt we are leaving our kids. RE: He’s smarter than you… - Zanary - 04-05-2025 Even VIP's Big Boy Musk has stated that he sees automation taking over most manufacturing, something Vance said for years (though is now trying to shrug off), and other industry watchdogs have said for decades. I'm all for great jobs being here, obviously, but trying to force some times of jobs when all trends show more efficiency via automation and the like...it'll have a very limited shelf life, and another slew of massive job cuts in the future. This current spray of insanity seems disinterested in how long it'll take to get supply lines and manufacturing actually set up; or, the idea is to get the good press from an upswing and be gone when the inevitable bad news occurs. I still fail to see any wisdom in petty insults and bullying towards longtime, proven allies...and this administration seems both proudly tone deaf and to have even less empathy for the "heartland Americans" than last time. RE: He’s smarter than you… - JimmyinSD - 04-06-2025 There are still blue collar jobs in industries and manufacturing processes that have adopted automation. We need more jobs building things and less service industry jobs for a real economy. |
