NFL Free-Agency Forecast: ‘It’s a Really Bad Group Overall’

A few AFC execs weigh in on the talent of this year’s group. Plus, Albert Breer forecasts this week’s frenzy, including who lands with which teams.

“Receiver is ridiculously weak—though that’s been supplemented with some veteran releases, so it’s gotten better [this week]. Tackle’s not very good, but guard’s O.K., center is O.K. And corner, safety and linebacker are all pretty good.”

Yeah it depends on what position you're looking at. Just looking at our positions of need, yes, the DL and RB classes are bad, with the only potential "star" at DT being Milton Williams. The list is growing with some recent additions like Allen and Hargrave though. You know it's a crap RB class when your own 30 year old, 1-year option guy is leading the pack.

But I agree that CB and G are strong, especially considering we're less than 24 hours away from legal tampering and most of the free agents at those positions have not yet re-upped with their teams. Jenkins, Fries, Ward, Reed, etc.

I'm certainly optimistic that we can compete to keep Byron Murphy II and Aaron Jones. Add two G (not just one) and our OL potentially becomes an area of strength. If Kwesi and KOC want to get the most out of JJM, they need to invest to protect him. And a strong interior DL. Patrick Jones emerged on the edge last year and earned a well-deserved payday, but he becomes expendable with Dallas Turner emerging this year.

The RB group in the draft is pretty deep. It would be a nice complement to get Jones a backup. Last season was one of his few injury free seasons.

In reviewing this top 100 list, I would like to see us go G, C and CB in free agency and focus on DT and RB in the draft.
