We've said all that needs to be said about the front office and coaching staff. Ultimately we all knew if we were going to get another win this season, today was going to be the day. We've got four games left and will certainly be underdogs in three of them. My hope is we see continued progression from McCarthy, some glimpses from the other young players, but ultimately losing does more for us then winning them does. Now THERE'S a stupid post. Losing for...what? Draft position, when college bois take time, something you and others obviously cannot cope with? The sheer dunce-ness of that post is amazing. More negativity towards KAM, KOC, etc...? Sure, when impatience is already on obvious display, calling for various levels of reboot makes a TON of...sense? No, it's just ridiculous drool. No real fan wants losses. Go be a Cleveland fan, you'll have lossses and a constant slew of high draft picks every season! If we can criticize the team and front office when the team loses we have to give them their due when they win. Can’t have it both ways. Ok...so we beat a bad Washington team at home. OConnell finally ran a balanced play sheet. Do we give him credit for finally doing that in week 14 when everybody's been calling for it all year and we are already eliminated from the playoffs!? I certainly don't and my response would be, " hey dipshit, where was this week two against Atlanta?" Like I said, great for the players to win, but all it does is hurt what little advantage a losing season does hold. Let's talk about another worthless win against Washington to prove my point. In 2011 we were a 2-12 football team heading into Washington on Christmas Eve, with a chance at the #1 overall pick on the line. We inexplicably win the game and finish out the season with a home loss to Chicago. We lose out on the #1 overall pick who was Andrew Luck. Instead, we end up with the 3rd pick that ended up being Matt Kalil after a one spot traded own with the Browns. This is the kind of shit that drives me crazy, but I'm sure many here (just like today) were thrilled with that meaningless win at Washington. And oh yes, us "real fans" are certainly tired of the mediocrity and never really contending. But if meaningless late season wins in a lost season floats your boat and keeps the pudding dribbling down your chin, more power to you RE: Commanders game thread - mblack - 12-07-2025 (12-07-2025, 04:47 PM)supafreak84 Wrote: Ok...so we beat a bad Washington team at home. Reading this makes me wonder if we here sometimes have too high an opinion of ourselves about our knowledge of football. This is just a fan forum after all. I don’t pretend to know football but I do know that if you are quick to criticize that someone is not doing something right you should also be ready to admit when they do something right instead of moving the goal post. Here were our needs in 2012: Left Tackle, Wide Receiver, and the Secondary (Cornerback/Safety). So QB was not one of them as we had just drafted Ponder. Again I don’t know much about football so just posting what I read. Speaking of Luck, what did the Colts win with Andrew Luck and where is he now? There were also Luke K, S. Gilmore, F. Cox and D. Poe in that same draft that we could have drafted even lower (since it seems we are just throwing out names). So your idea of what happened in 2012 is pretty confusing. Those guys do bust their humps all season, coaches too. I figured they would win against a really banged-up Commodes team, didnt expect the shut-out...But hell, they lost McDaniel and Ertz today on top of it. I'm hoping for the highest draft pick we can get, AND I also want to see JJM keep his upward trajectory going. We also have some superstar young players that want to win and you want them wanting to stay. Thats a really big deal imo. Anything can happen in a divisional game. But honestly? Not sure I see another win? Maybe Gmen? at Dallas at NYG Lions GB I think this will be a 5 win team when the dust settles...Thats good enough for a top 10 pick but bad enough for some real bad feelings out in Eagan these days. Thats concerning to me. RE: Commanders game thread - mblack - 12-07-2025 (12-07-2025, 05:02 PM)purplefaithful Wrote: I do want to pause as a fan and enjoy the win for the team. As we all know not all high draft positions return the reward we expect in terms of player selection and development. I do agree that odds are better with the chance to pick early with the pool of players available and ability to convert picks for more high quality picks. Ponder was awful as a rookie and we wouldn't have hesitated to draft Luck, just like every other team in the league would have. Maybe the greatest quarterback prospect of all time. Just like Bears, who punted Justin Fields to draft Caleb Williams. And yeah I'll disagree with you on KOC. It's the equivalent of someone buying auto insurance AFTER being in a car wreck. Too little, too late for this season RE: Commanders game thread - mblack - 12-07-2025 (12-07-2025, 05:11 PM)supafreak84 Wrote: Ponder was awful as a rookie and we wouldn't have hesitated to draft Luck, just like every other team in the league would have. That was sarcasm by the way. As a reminder the Bears did not give up on Fields after one year. So your Ponder stance is not applicable. I am sure you are a better coach that KOC but I’ll stick with the guy that actually coaches in the nfl and won coach of the year. Those accolades however do not prevent him from criticism but pretending he does not know what he is doing is just crazy and takes away from the weak argument you are trying to make. What happened this season is more than poor qb play. And like I have said there is enough blame to go around but that does not prevent us from giving credit where it’s due even if for just one game. If you think we would have passed on Luck because we took a flyer on Ponder the year prior who was awful as a rookie, you are wrong. Luck going #1 was the slam dunk of all slam dunks. Did I ever claim to be a better coach than KOC? I'm getting older, but pretty sure I never made that claim. Could I draft better than Kwesi? That's a different conversation, but fairly certain my dead grandmother could draft better. However, you don't give someone credit for something they should have done in the first place, especially when it's what people have literally been screaming for in the media and everywhere else (certainly here) all year long. You want to fluff his pillow because he finally did it...in week 14...after having been eliminated from the playoffs...go for it. RE: Commanders game thread - medaille - 12-08-2025 I like to win. Only time, I'll cheer for a loss is the last game and we're in the running for the top X pick or better when there's only X QBs to get in the draft. RE: Commanders game thread - StickierBuns - 12-08-2025 Interesting stat line: 14/33, 160 yards and 3 INTs with zero TDs. Pretty fugly, huh? This was Patrick Mahomes last night. Listen, if you can't enjoy a much needed decent game by McCarthy and a win, you've got an agenda. But what else is new on this board with a few posters? |
