The organization correctly identified Maye as the best QB in that class. They then developed a plan via the trade with Houston to move up to draft him. By all reports, they tried to execute that trade up. But NE wisely rebuffed ours (& reportedly the NYG) efforts to trade up & drafted Maye. Yes, that was maybe the plan, but they coukd have traded back down from 23 to recoup those lost picks, not added more to the stack to get a guy that was a developmental prospect. You dont get to 17 without first getting to 23, so the cost that was previously suggested is simply not true. He had both his hands on him on a crucial play and could not bring him down, Williams easily shook him off. Believe me Turner is not the first person Williams has done that to. Despite setting a record last season for being sacked, Williams is incredibly hard to tackle and bring down. I watched him do the most Houdini shit ever against my Irish in college and again last Sunday. He is slippery and has the lower body of a running back. Greenard has had issues bringing Williams down. Caleb is a difficult QB to bring down. As to Turner, it is obvious we only have one Van Ginkel and he fills a unique role. But Turner seemed to play well in Greenards spot. Our D was pretty solid. Turner tends to tackle high by grabbing shoulders and wrapping around the neck. Need to get lower and wrap up to stop a strong, elusive runner like Williams. RE: Bright spot: Dallas Turner - JimmyinSD - 11-19-2025 lets also point out that the protections given to QBs now have made them all into Earl Campbells, with that said, Turner needs to improve his finish work as going high is an easy way for the QB to escape, but also a much quicker way to a cheap 15 yarder, you see Mahomes and others calling for that flag anytime somebody comes near their heads. |
