Both head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron were fired during the regular season, and even Bears general manager Ryan Poles admitted this offseason that "steps were skipped" in preparing Williams for his rookie season.
Among the number of coaching oversights was that Williams had no one watching film with him. Wickersham detailed in an excerpt of his book that instead, Williams watched film on his own without any guidance on what to watch or what to take away from the tape.
"No one tells me what to watch," Caleb Williams told his dad, per Wickersham. "I just turn it on."

I think Williams has some hitches in his giddyup (in between his ears) that JJM does not have.
My gut tells me that JJM is a better leader, a more natural winner.
Do you recall how whiny Williams was at USC when they kept losing?
The guy has talent, I'm not questioning that. I am guardedly optimistic that JJM has the intangibles that Williams does not possess.

My money is on JJM, I'm extremely confident that we ended up with the right QB...and I'll be the first to admit that I'm being assumptive as hell.
That said, I saw some of Caleb's uneven play in both his last college season and with "da bears". He's an amazing athlete, but as others have said, I'm not impressed with the qualities in his head. For all his gifts and prowess, I'm not convinced that his arrogance and judgement issues are truly fixable.

Not sure where you are getting the arrogance and judgement issues, he is none of that. Great kid, so many false narratives out about him. I have never heard anyone who really knows him say nothing but great things about him on all levels.

McCarthy said after being drafted that Minnesota was the place ALL the QBs talked about going from his Draft class. So not a surprise but to have it in black and white with some more details about it and what William's camp was considering doing to get out of Chicago was highly interesting.

Damn, that's gotta sting for the Bears. But like others have pointed out, this should really not come as a surprise to anyone since every one of those QBs wanted to go to Minnesota.
The watching film alone thing is just shocking to me. You invest all this time, money and research into drafting your franchise QB, a decision that will have a decade-long impact....and you don't do every damn tiny little thing to help him become successful? Mind boggling to me.

One example, from the "Pivot Podcast" back in 2024:
“If you look at the stats, and on average, I am the most dead center even dude for scrambling and throwing in the pocket… I am the farthest from all of them in every single way… I can do anything and everything as I want and as my team needs.”
Also, the deep yardage sacks he took were cited, repeatedly, as the results of his belief that he's able to outrun/outplay established pros in the league he'd barely joined. There was also some babble about not seeing any real difference in pro vs college...as he and da bears were the cellar dwellers on the NFCN.
I got it from watching and reading.

Yes, hard to fathom the money spent by an NFL team, scouting, all the coaches, the equipment and to overlook such a simple thing. Reminds me of the browns pay for an expensive study on QBs only to ignore it and draft Manziel. I guess money doesn't buy intelligence.
