It wasn't just the kneeling. I've always said that Kaep was a poor mans version of RG3. They had very similar trajectories...and they both crashed and burned mainly due to injury issues letting someone else take the starting job. No doubt that RG3 was the better player between the two.
Your QB is supposed to be the team leader...team leader...not just the black players. Kaep's activism was a disruptive influence on his teams. He was very outspoken on issues that had nothing to do with football. It wasn't even the BLM activism..he was also a Vegan activist. He would spout off about a lot of issues. Nobody wanted to pay him a lot of money to potentially disrupt and destroy their chemistry. When he sued the NFL...he was pretty much done. His activist GF wasn't much help either...remember when the Ravens were thinking about bringing Kaep in and she compared the team owner to a slave trader? Kaepernick has had a chance to prove himself by taking a backup position or play in the CFL or XFL but he was asking for outrageous money. He wanted $20M to play in the XFL when the other QBs were making $250k. That 1-10 record and 2200 yards passing during his final year in SF certainly didn't help his marketability nor did the activism. The pig socks, the attending rallies where they called for the killing of police officers, etc. certainly didn't make anyone want to go out of their way to sign him and deal with the potential backlash. Would you want to be an NFL owner paying him big bucks wondering what he's going to do next forcing you to defend whatever Kaep wants to do or say next?
We've had conversations on this board about signing Rodgers but all of us agree that he's a self important ass and regardless of his skills..we want no part of him. Kaep has a lot less skills than Rodgers...why should we not acknowledge that the Kaepernick sideshow isn't worth the potential benefit.
To pretend this is about a simple non-violent gesture is a distortion of the actual facts on the ground. Kaep knew his actions would have consequences but he was willing to deal with the fallout. Well....this is the fallout...so deal with it.

Why isn't he playing for the UFL or CFL? At this point in time, it's purely just to get his name in the media again. Does anyone think he's actually been working hard to be in NFL shape? Like what kind of stupidity would you have to have to feel like you're getting blacklisted and then keep working out to be in shape for an NFL roster spot? Like either move on with your life, and if you want to QB a team, go to a place that will let you play.

nobody wanted the circus then, which is why he wasnt signed then, a lot of fans were pissed about his actions and that blow back from the fans was something no owners wanted to deal with IMO. the anti law enforcement message was what really did him in IMO, not as much about the dis-respecting the national anthem.

he was good enough to be on a roster... but not with the baggage he brought with him, and the risk of the blow back if you were to decide to cut him due to him not performing ... just not worth the risk.

Everyone forgets that in 2016, he WAS in fact offered a deal from the Broncos, and it was reported that he refused to sign for less than $11 million a year (approx. his contract number in SF). A whole lot of self-importance and delusion going on here.
This was in 2018...two years after the Broncos made the offer to take him after Kaepernick exercised his option to opt out of the 49ers:
On Thursday, reporters asked Broncos GM John Elway if the team would consider signing Colin Kaepernick to fill the backup job. Elway said they wouldn't because the team previously offered Kaepernick a contract and he turned it down.
"Colin had his chance to be here," Elway said. "We offered him a contract. He didn't take it."
Elway seemed to be referring to negotiations that took place between the Broncos and Kaepernick in 2016. Kaepernick, then with the San Francisco 49ers, asked for permission to explore trades with other teams.
According to reports at the time, the Broncos were offering Kaepernick a deal with $7 million in base salary. That year he was slated to earn $11.9 million in base salary from the 49ers. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported at the time that the Broncos wanted the 49ers to make up the additional $4.9 million and they would not. Kaepernick refused to give up the remaining $4.9 million. The talks eventually fell apart.

BINGO.
He was inarguably blackballed...but, he also was a complete idiot with optics. Castro T-shirt, "pig cop" socks, and a fairly arrogant attitude about his choices made for a PR nightmare. No amount of NIKE gladhanding or BLM alliance could erase the pure dumbassery that kept bubbling up...and it didn't get any better as he remained 'defiant' as year after year of fresher, younger, cheaper talent joined the league.
He was part of a very messy period, and he complicated his place in it, repeatedly.
