It is a misdemeanor, and Trump making a point on illegals. The person pardoned though is not a good person, but it is all about the politics.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan opposes President Trump's pardoning of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, an aide said Saturday, joining Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain in criticizing the decision.
"The speaker does not agree with this decision,” said Doug Andres, a spokesman for Ryan. “Law enforcement officials have a special responsibility to respect the rights of everyone in the United States. We should not allow anyone to believe that responsibility is diminished by this pardon."
Trump on Friday spared Arpaio, from the Phoenix area, the prospect of serving jail time in granting the first presidential pardon of his turbulent tenure, wiping away the lawman's recent federal conviction stemming from his immigration patrols that focused on Latinos.

I'm skeptical anytime a president pardons someone that benefits him (the president) personally- whether it was Obama's pandering to certain voting blocks... or Trump protecting "one of his own".  But the case against Sheriff Joe seems dumb (I say "seems" because I haven't spent alot of time studying it).  According to the original post, his crime was profiling hispanics while he patrolled the border.  Well, um... WHO was he supposed to be looking for (in regard to enforcing immigration laws)- pale Europeans crossing the Arizona border?  This whole hub-bub about "profiling" is (mostly) garbage.  Now the police can't release pictures or descriptions of criminals who are on the loose... for fear it might be construed as "profiling".  If Joe was put in the pokey just for doing his job- albeit in a "non-PC" way- then it seems to me that the pardon is justified.

His crime was refusing to obey a Federal court order, contempt of court.  Lawman turned vigilante du jour.

what was the court order?  was that order inline with the laws that he was legally bound to enforce?

It was a court order that he willfully and crimanaly disobeyed, the law is not a buffet.  If you can't do the time don't do the crime.  If you rob a bank to pay child support or your taxes, ends don't justify the means, woe onto you.  Unless, of course, you have someone that will put you above the law.

ok,  so if its a law on the books and you break it you deserve what ever punishment is handed down?  that is your position?
