Panther's Greg Olsen in Broadcast Booth Week 11 Game - Cricket - 11-14-2017 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/11/14/vikings-may-be-skittish-about-greg-olsen-calling-week-11-game/ Vikings may be skittish about Greg Olsen calling Week 11 game This weekend, FOX will enhance its broadcast of the Rams-Vikings game by adding Panthers tight end Greg Olsen to the two-man booth of Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis. The Vikings (and for that matter the Rams) may not be thrilled about that. Paul Allen of KFAN and the Vikings Radio Network raised during my weekly visit to his show the question of whether the Vikings will be comfortable with the idea of a player from an upcoming opponent having access to practice, production meetings, etc. Nothing against Olsen, but the Vikings shouldn’t be thrilled with giving Olsen an inside look at team operations, only three weeks before his current team hosts the Vikings. Conflicts of interest are hardly new in this setting; broadcasters (like Jon Gruden, the brother of Washington coach Jay Gruden, and Chris Spielman, the brother of Vikings G.M. Rick Spielman) routinely enjoy access to inside information regarding actual and potential opponents of a family member’s team. But this one is far more direct. Olsen is currently playing for the Panthers, and he’ll be privy to information that no team would want a member of another team to get. Asked about the dynamic during a Monday press conference, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said, “I’m gonna let higher-ups than me handle that.” Full article at link Panther's Greg Olsen in Broadcast Booth Week 11 Game - Guest - 11-14-2017 Olsen is currently playing for the Panthers Yeah..I don't get this at all. The dude is under contract with a team, how the Hell can he be calling games as a current player? I get that hes injured...but this sets a disturbing precedence IMO. Gruden and Spielman are professionals that depend upon keeping their job. They would jepardize their job by sharing that info. Olsen's focus is quite different. He should be focused on his team winning. And that is a serious conflict of interest. Panther's Greg Olsen in Broadcast Booth Week 11 Game - Guest - 11-14-2017 Comes down to being on the payroll of an opposing team. Vikings need to contact league office and demand he's removed from broadcast as long as he receives compensation from another team. The Vikings play the Panthers on Dec. 10 in a game that could have major playoff implications. Olsen is eligible to return from injured reserve before that game. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the request to have Olsen moved off of the Vikings’ game on Sunday was denied. Fox Vice President of Communications Eddie Motl released a statement saying, in part, “we fully respect the Vikings’ concerns and will limit the amount of pregame access allowed to Greg.” Full article at link Panther's Greg Olsen in Broadcast Booth Week 11 Game - Guest - 11-14-2017 "Expect everyone to forget about this … at least for another month. At that point, if the Panthers defeat the Vikings, expect a lot of conspiracy theories." "We fully respect the need for them to do their job, but having a conflicted person on their crew leads us to do our job and protect the integrity of the game."
