Talking about Competition QBs - medaille - 02-05-2026

RE: Talking about Competition QBs - MaroonBells - 02-06-2026

Couple things I took from that….

With Kwesi out of the way, and the head coach making the decisions, KOC’s leash now becomes much shorter, and if JJ starts the year, say, 2-5, what the Vikings are going to need the most at that point is a guy who can come in and salvage the season…and everyone’s jobs.

They also make a good point that maybe next year is the year to make the big swing for a QB. It gives you one more year to see what you have in JJ; the Tua and Kyler contracts become much more feasible; Mac Jones will be a free agent (along with Mayfield, Stroud and Richardson); and the 2027 QB draft class is said to be among the best ever.

arent almost all "next year" QB classes supposed to be among the best ever.... then teams have more film and more time to study on those candidates and really only a couple actually become quality candidates?   its always seems like our answer is just one year away at about any position of need,  until we get there and .....

I sure as hell hope it doesnt come down to being needy for a rook QB in 27...I mean, thats going to be a 5 year wait till the time JJM was drafted and the new kid can learn 1/2 the playbook and sniff starting.

Thats a lot of years of all the prime talent in that locker room today surrounding the QB. IT would be another complete re-boot.

UGH

Well it always changes, that’s for sure. But I think generally speaking, you can identify good and bad classes a couple years away. But all of that can change based on who comes out and who doesn’t. Who gets hurt (Allar), who has a bad season (Nussmeier, Klubnik) and who comes out of nowhere (Mendoza).

I think the biggest reason 2027 looks good right now is because a couple of QBs who could have come out in 2026 (Moore, Manning) decided to stay in school.

I get it,  more more of a tongue in cheek busting your balls thing.  I should have planted an emoji at the end as I didnt convey that very well.

Derek Carr is apparently unretiring! (crowd goes mild)

If the Vikings aren't able to get Burrow or another A-lister, my money is on Carr to be a Viking. Carr gets one more payday and a mentorship role, plus a chance to start for a good team if JJM stinks or gets hurt. Oh and if Carr has future coaching aspirations, this isn't a bad room to be in.

Lots of if's but it makes sense to me. Especially if KO still believes in McCarthy.

Saints currently retain his rights though…

I was just reading that so we'll have to trade for him. And sounds like he's due a lot of money. Oh and he could always Ragnow his physical.

Admittedly there's some hurdles to cross here hah. But the Saints want him gone so he'll be available. It will depend on the comp I guess.

From a PR perspective he's not Aaron Rodgers or a QB who's already played for us, so that's nice.

I wouldn't hate that idea. He fits the profile. Experienced but not too old. Would be good competition for JJ with no obvious winner. The question with him is still his shoulder. I think he's going to have to host his own Pro Day of sorts to prove to teams that he can still throw the ball before anyone is going to commit resources to acquire him. And how does he do that if still under contract with the Saints?
