Vikings working on deal for Flores - MaroonBells - 12-27-2025 https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/vikings-work-to-re-sign-free-agent-defensive-coordinator-brian-flores Vikings work to re-sign free-agent defensive coordinator Brian Flores Brian Flores picked the perfect time to create chaos for the Detroit Lions. Flores, in his third season as the Vikings’ defensive coordinator, is in the final year of his contract. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Vikings are currently working toward extending his deal. The Vikings wanted to do it before the 2025 regular season. Flores decided to wait. If he was betting on himself, he won. Minnesota’s defense has been the strength of a team that started 4-8 and worked its way back to .500, despite an underperforming offense. Thursday’s 23-10 win over the Lions featured six turnovers created by Minnesota’s defense. It was a continuation of the prior meeting between the two teams, during which the Vikings generated heavy pressure on quarterback Jared Goff — often sending players up the middle and forcing Goff from his preferred spot of operating in the pocket en route to a 27-24 win. The Vikings currently rank fifth in yards allowed per game, at 292.7. They’re tenth in points allowed, with 20.6. The stout Week 17 defensive showing allowed the Vikings to become the first team in 47 years to win by 10 or more points while generating fewer than 10 net passing yards. Without a new contract, Flores becomes free to join a new staff elsewhere. With a new contract, he’d remain eligible to leave for a head-coaching job elsewhere. Whether and to what extent he’ll be a viable candidate for a second shot as a head coach remains to be seen. His pending arbitration and litigation against the NFL and multiple teams (Giants, Dolphins, Broncos, and Texans) will be a practical impediment — even if federal law mandates that it not be. RE: Vikings working on deal for Flores - purplefaithful - 12-27-2025 Pay the man - and give him an Asst Head Coach title too... Its no secret he and his family love it here. RE: Vikings working on deal for Flores - JR44 - 12-27-2025 I am not a fan and would love to see him go. Many wanted Darnold out, thinking he could not win the big game, but not sure why Flores has gotten a pass on that. His defense was terrible in the last two games as well last year and they consistently let us down in big games. When we were still in it this year, we went through a streak of games of giving up a TD on the opening drive and just really poor adjustments. He beats up on bad teams, but can't win big games. Also think he is an awful talent evaluator and is clueless when it comes to the secondary, just this year he cut Nashon Wright who went on to be on the best CBs in the league, he cut Reddy Steward who was our most impressive CB in camp and has been a valuable part of the Cowboys secondary, he didn't want to keep Blackmon and he thought a guy who was Philly's 5th CB was going to be the answer for the #2 CB. If Tomlin didn't hire him, I am not sure he would still be in the NFL with his bogus lawsuit, he claims racism against the NFL, yet he was a black head coach in an organization with a black GM. He talks about blacks not getting the same opportunities in the NFL and then hires this law firm to represent him and walks into court with his white lawyers. Take a look at the lawyers in the law firm, the hypocrisy is off the charts. https://www.wigdorlaw.com/our-team/ RE: Vikings working on deal for Flores - purplefaithful - 12-27-2025 I'll just lay these facts out there for those that want to chew on em... Rank 2nd Pressure Rate 40.0% Rank 3rd Passing Yards Allowed Per Game 168.8 Rank 5th Total Yards Allowed Per Game 292.7 Rank 8th Defensive EPA per play N/A Rank 9th Third-down conversion rate allowed N/A Rank 10th Points Allowed Per Game 20.6 Rank 22nd Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game 123.9 The defense is currently tied for the lead in the NFL in interceptions and second in total takeaways this season. Not happy with the season overall, but the reason this team is .500 is not because of the defense. We went years looking at Kirk Cousins stats too, but the reality is Kirk didn't win when it counted and neither does Flores. Like I said, I'm not going to try and change your mind. I am polar opposite of you when it comes to conclusions about our D this season and the impact they've had on total team win/loss. But I am very convicted this team is sniffing even .500 cause of that D and in spite of the offense and QB. RE: Vikings working on deal for Flores - supafreak84 - 12-27-2025 Just my opinion, but 95% of the time the defense has looked bad under Flores, it's been the direct result of a sputtering offense doing absolutely nothing but putting the defense in bad situations. That was the case at the tail end of last season and it's been the case in almost every loss this season. It's why Ive said several times that Flores absolutely deserves to punch O'Connell in the face mid game. The lawsuit has been a lifesaver for us. It's not often you keep high end coordinators with a history of success as long as we've kept Flores. Extending his contract should absolutely be a priority. Lol RE: Vikings working on deal for Flores - Bullazin - 12-27-2025 My only concern with BFlo is that when we needed to stop the run we could not in multiple games. Was there a leaning curve for Allen and Hargrave that affected that? As Sup alluded was the lack of O a big factor? I’m not sure. I think an impact nose is by far our biggest need in the draft or FA. S is #2 unless Hitman defies the odds RE: Vikings working on deal for Flores - AGRforever - 12-27-2025 (12-27-2025, 03:03 PM)purplefaithful Wrote: Like I said, I'm not going to try and change your mind.
