BREAKING: Its officially JJ McCarthy time - StickierBuns - 03-19-2025

Tom Pelissero
@TomPelissero
"The #Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say. Back to his playing weight already, knee is 100%.
The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1."

Clenching a bit on QB2, the choices are getting fewer by the day.  Joshua Dobbs just went to the Pats, they have a plan, reuniting him and Bradbury.

The #Vikings continue to explore multiple options for a veteran QB addition, whether through free agency or a trade.

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers’ options are now focused on the #Steelers and #Giants.

On the NFL Network crawl now. Hopefully this ends it. Would love to know what teams were offering for JJ.

All we need is a guy with a pulse.

Proud of myself for never believing Rodgers-to-MIN would happen. 2025 Rodgers is not a great starter and he's not a great backup. Easy pass. Congrats to everyone at The Athletic who got their clicks, though.

Interesting he mentions the possibility of a trade, maybe that is why they did not jump on some of the other guys who went earlier, maybe they have someone they have been talking to by trade.  I would still guess Flacco or Tannehill as been rumored.

Closing the door on Rodgers is the news here I guess. And good news at that. I'm just not sure why Pelissero mentions that the Vikings rejected multiple trade offers for McCarthy. Was there a time when we seriously considered that?

What if the proposed trade was Herbert for McCarthy?  That is one that might make sense with all of the Salary Cap open and the skill set. Still, I would rather go with what I think we have here.

Flacco would seem to be a great fit but the trade angle that keeps being brought up is interesting. I'm trying to think of players already familiar with KOC and the offense on other teams, but not coming up with any feasable options. I'm thinking maybe a younger player drafted recently who's current team is moving in another direction (Richardson, Levis, etc). Only issue with that is those teams might want to hold on to them until after the draft to see where they stand at the position and I'd guess the Vikings want to address the backup spot asap.
