Throwing stuff at the wall....Vikings trade deadline - purplefaithful - 10-30-2024

Interesting thought...Big on cap hit though.

===================================================

If not Dexter Lawrence, Minnesota Vikings should attempt to trade for NY Jets DL Quinnen Williams

With the Jets struggling, perhaps the Vikings could convince them to work out a trade that would end up with Williams in Minnesota.

During the last few months, New York has given up future draft picks in order to acquire players like Davante Adams and Haason Reddick. But instead of looking to give up more draft selections before this season's trade deadline, the Jets' current struggles might lead them to be open to moving on from some of their veteran players in exchange for future draft picks.

New York could potentially be heading into a major overhaul during the upcoming offseason, and unloading players with expensive contracts like Williams is typically what teams have done in the past when in a similar situation.

Williams has been in the NFL since 2019, when the Jets used the No. 3 overall pick in that year's draft on him. During his tenure in New York, he's racked up 35 sacks, two Pro Bowl selections, and one First-Team All-Pro nod.

So far this season, Williams has accumulated 15 tackles (one for a loss), two sacks, and 19 pressures, which, according to data from PFF, is more than what any current defensive lineman on Minnesota's roster has been able to generate this year.

The veteran Jets defender has proven throughout his career that he can generate a ton of pressure without the help of his teammates frequently blitzing. In their loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 7, the Vikings could've used someone like Williams instead of feeling the need to blitz on more than half of the dropbacks by Lions quarterback Jared Goff.

Last summer, the All-Pro defensive lineman signed a four-year extension with the New York worth $96 million, and while this is a high-priced contract, it's one that Minnesota can afford while they take advantage of having a starting quarterback on a cheap contract for the next few seasons.

The Vikings would really just have to figure out what they are willing to give up in order to acquire Williams from the Jets. With limited assets in the 2025 draft, should Minnesota be willing to send its 2025 first-round selection to New York if that's what it would take to complete a trade for the talented defender?

I'm taking this one with an extreme grain of salt...
==============================================

Two weeks ago, the New York Giants owned a 2-3 record after rattling off a couple of season-saving wins.

Now, New York is 2-5 and could morph into a seller by the NFL’s trade deadline on November 5th. The Giants have a 5.6% chance of reaching the postseason heading into Week 8 — also known as a death sentence.

Not long ago, it seemed like a longshot that New York would trade its best player, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. Yet, after a two-game skid and a deathly playoff prognosis, the franchise could change its tune within the next 14 days.

And per Lawrence’s lips, he’s tired of losing. “Personally, I’m pissed because I hate losing with a passion. I take that hard, losing — I really don’t like it.

That’s something that I’m not going to keep accepting. I want to see this team grow and be as good as we are throughout the week in practice,” Lawrence told reporters following his team’s most recent loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. New York lost 28-3 on Sunday, an anemic showing against a primary foe.

Lawrence added, “Every loss hurts. I’m pissed, but we just have to find a way to play better as a group. I think that is the biggest thing that we have to play better as a group.

I’m not getting no petty wins. Whoever won on the scoreboard, that’s the game. I don’t give a damn about a petty win.”

Honestly, I have an unsettling feeling about how the rest of the season is going to go. The Detroit game didn't necessarily bother me, but the Rams game did. We'll see.

Im not sure missing out on a high level DT is offset by grabbing a DE, we need the pressure right in the QBs face, Lawrence would provide that, but Williams is more DE and not likely to survive sliding into the middle on a 34 IMO... but I havent see a lot of jets games either.

Yah, U and me both...

But the question I ask myself now is how (if at all) did the Darrisaw injury change their outlook for rest of 24? And will that impact their strategy to acquire more roster talent before the trade deadline?

The Darrisaw injury shouldnt cause for pause, but the D getting sliced and diced and the O falling flat for 3/4 of games should make them self evaluate IMO. However, if we are going to really go all in behind JJM... then we should look at any 24-27 OL/DL player that comes available IMO, especially DT and IOL.

Are you referring to Quinnen Williams?

He is a DT, plays next to Kinlaw.

The best team is the NFC is Detroit.

The 2nd best team is unclear and probably among the group of teams like Skins, Eagles, Vikes and maybe Atlanta.

Becoming the unanimous #2 NFC team is both realistic and doable for Kwesi and the Vikings.

Only way he doesn't make any trades is because he finds no deals he likes.

If Kwesi "Frees" Addison and trades him to get a player he wants, he should do it.

The Draft day "lets get paid" , Speeding ticket last year, Drunk driving incident last summer (with expected suspension next year), and last weekend the "Free 3" Instagram post. Selling Addison low isn't ideal I get it.

There's 10 weeks left, weird bounces and injuries are gonna happen. Gonna be fun to watch.

The only thing that concerned me about the Rams game was the lack of pressure we were able to generate.  Also, we really missed Cashman's coverage ability in the middle.  Pace is a great blitzer and hits like a ton of bricks, but he got worked trying to cover the Rams receivers in the middle of the field.

Hopefully Flores can figure that out and take away these quick hit passes through scheme so Van Ginkel, Greenard, and company have time to get home on their rush.  We beat Indy, everyone is feeling better.  We lose and the hot start means nothing.

In a 43 he may be a DT, but in our 34 I would expect him to be more of a DE hes listed at 303, which I am guessing is a bit inflated, I didnt see that as a 34 NT type of player that I would like to see, I dont want another guy that only plays on certain downs. I would like to see a NT that can both stop the run as well as get after the QB, actually Phillips has shown improvement IMO, but I still think we need more.

RE: Throwing stuff at the wall....Vikings trade deadline - JR44 - 10-30-2024

We could have easily lost the Jets game on that last drive and had to hang on to beat Packers, this team has not been playing great since the 2nd half of Packer game. There are too many holes in the defense with no DL or CBs. Flores can only cover up the weaknesses for so long like last year. On offense, Darnold has been better than expected, but is not a guy who is going to carry a team. It has been a good season so far, but I don't consider us a legit contender and believe we should be working on building a team around JJM instead of giving away more draft picks, which we already low on.
