I don't use IG, Twitter, Tiktok, Threads or Snapchat. I do use FB as I find it very useful for certain community information. As many of you know, I am very involved in the autism community and I have a lot of FB friends in that community. This way, I stay in touch with what out spectrum parents are doing. Really, the more a social network can be personalized for a person, the more utility it has.said:
Sounds about as good for your physical and mental health as drinking, smoking and twitter. I'd put tiktok, snapchat, facebook and instagram in that category. Those are just an opportunity for folks to submit to the world the person they want to be. But it's a false reality. What it does to teenage girls is heartbreaking.
But I think most people just use Twitter as quick news. That's all I use it for. I read it every day, but in the 4 years I've had an account, I think I can count my posts on one hand.
The paradox is the more utility it has in reflecting a person's interest and connecting that person to people of shared interests is that it can be a breeding place for negative societal effects -- for instance, if one believes in nazism (hopefully, we can all agree that has negative societal affects), social networks allow such people to connect with one another forming an echo chamber. I think social networks biggest challenge is balancing the positive while limiting the negative and where to draw such line.
