Heard one analogy that actually made sense.  The English have their royalty and then they have their political leaders and they are kept separate.

In the US we have our royalty and political leaders combined.

Antiquated for sure. Norway, Sweden, Denmark to name a few in Europe still have monarchies. Ridiculousness IMO.
