Thanks Tom, Thanks Rick for taking the time to talk with us.  Still wondering about the passion question with WR Conley specifically.  But at round 6, no heartburn about it.  Just popped out that his supposed weakness is passion for the game.

I did the best with that one as I could, as we were running over our time slot and he was headed to Sirius radio for an interview there.  It was not possible to dive deeply on all 11 picks, so I had to do some picking and choosing on which ones to talk about.  The deep dive was on Cook, who Rick thought was a Day 1 talent.

Hey Tom, great job  😀

Hey Barr, what did you think of the interview? Pretty cool to be a little mouse in the corner, I’m betting 😀

I think that, as Rick said, there’s a lot of info about these players that never reaches the light of day. Whether that’s personal/private info about themselves or their families, or about their “activities” off the field, I think as fans we have to accept that we’ll never know everything and also that there’s a lot we think we know but a lot of that so-called inside info is completely false. None of us can change what picks have been made, and as a fan of the team I’m going to accept who they picked and cheer them on.

I maintain that I do wish that we’d not trade back so much on the third day. I get the logic behind it, but I’d rather see us go for quality over quantity. I would have rather had those 3 fourth rounders, or those 2 third rounders, than multitudes of 7th rounders. I will say I do think we picked up intriguing players with a couple of those later picks, Bucky Hodges and Elijah Lee being the 2 I’m most excited about.

Rick always keeps things close to the vest, but considering what his job is with the team I’m glad he operates that way. It’s pretty cool that he was gracious enough to give this interview 2 days after the draft ended. Thank you to Rick!

I always enjoy these interviews a lot. The access to Rick and the players past and present is awesome. Thanks again, Tom!

Thanks PG – Rick is fun to interview – he goes with the flow and has a good sense of humor.

Absolutely fantastic interview.

I wish we could have asked him about Michael Floyd or other FAs out there.  I think our WR looks thin.

I know – if I had 30 minutes, we could have done a lot, but I am pleased we got Rick on the first (non-Sunday) day after the draft, and his time was sparse.   I would have asked him about the 2 WRs and if they were competing for, mainly, the top kick returner spot.  Would have asked about the 4th round tackle, and where both Bohringer and Treadwell were.   It just get limited on time we had and went with the flow of the conversation.  I took the Cook choice as the top thing we talked about.

He did.  He made a comment in a post that he’d love to be a fly on the wall for the Spielman interview, so I invited him.  I plan to invite others to future player interviews so they can hear the process live.

If you are taking requests, I can hold the microphone for the cheerleaders.  devil

C’mon down.  They are actually hard to interview, as you want to ask them about football, but most don’t know a ton about the game.  But, when you see them, you really don’t mind what they talk about.

Nice job Tom.  You have a gift for disarming the most seasoned of NFL brass.  Kudos.

Insightful, as well.  Good questioning=good responses.

Great interview Tom and thank you for bringing it to us!

I do think it’s comical how much time we spend debating rumors that get passed through the grapevine.  Most that probably aren’t even really being discussed or being considered at Winter Park.  At least it gives us something to do for a couple months lol

Thank You Rick for giving us some of your time!

Yes, and he says the hard part is having to read it or hear it, and then to need to leave it alone, as denying it makes it worse.

One of the most interesting things he said was about using “face time” to interact more with draft prospects.  It’s pretty cool how technology has become a big part of the draft process and can give teams more opportunities to talk with players.  For saavy teams, it gives them more data points to sift through all these prospects and find the right guys for their team.

Nice work, Tom.  As always, a HUGE thanks to Rick for coming to our little corner of the internet to talk Vikings football.

Was listening to a discussion yesterday on how Social Media has given NFL teams/scouts new and insightful lens to prospects as well.

Eye opening stuff and kids 17-21 can be, shall we say not to savvy on managing that aspect of their lives 😉
